EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR EXECUTION LOG

The time is nearing midnight as New Year revelers mingle, many already quite drunk. The night air is crisp and cold as the Empire prepares a fanfare and fireworks display to ring in the New Year. Concealed among the revelers, cloaked Corsairs fan out, preparing to play their part. The explosives have been set and primed, all that’s needed is to broadcast the message and get out, ideally without losing anybody. Simple, right?

For most of the Empire, the event goes off without a hitch. However, in the mining community of Vindess, and in the Imperial City of Bluvink, the explosions shake the settlements to their foundations. Screams of panic start to spread as the Mine begins collapsing upon itself in Vindess, while the weapon’s facility in Bluvink goes up in flames, albeit surprisingly contained considering the amount of ordnance usually stored within.

Panic erupts into the streets as confused Imperial soldiers spring into action, barking orders and drawing weapons, although they have no idea who caused this. The speakers, placed to play the Emperor’s New Year speech and provide musical accompaniment to the fireworks show, suddenly spring to life. The Corsairs step up to speak, knowing they have little time Imperials track down their signal and re-take control of their communications system, as well as send soldiers to beat down their door.

MISSIONS

Sign-Ups are still open but we will post the current groups as they stand. The following missions are available, you may participate in as many missions as you wish so long as they are in the same region.

There will be three major stages to each log, each receiving their own top level. The final top level, Escape, is open to all characters in the region and can consist of multiple threads or one big singular thread depending on preference. Villain plots will take place during the first two stages. Depending on numbers, if desired players can combine stage 1 and 2 into a singular thread. If combined, the header should read [LOCATION] GUARD AND PROPOGANDA

Bluvink Guard: Heavily armed and armored Imperial Shock Troops, as well as a flight of three Feder Armors will be dispatched to keep the peace and destroy the Corsair group. The Guard group needs to beat or confuse the Shock Troopers during the speech
Conflict: The Shock Troopers will be out in force and will be quickly trying to track down the signal. If Troopers with scanners are left alone they will quickly encircle the broadcasters so the Guard will need to harass or otherwise disrupt the scanning to keep them guessing while the broadcast happens.
Sign-Ups: Nephenee, Yuki
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK GUARD
Region: Bluvink

Villain Plot - Terra:Wearing the Slave Crown and enhanced by the Empire’s boosting drugs, Terra’s consciousness sleeps while her body is used to wreak havoc.
Conflict: Terra will be going directly to the Propogandists as soon as they are identified, and will need to be stopped lest she burn them alive in their hideout.
Sign-Ups: Donatello, Natalia, Deedee, Harlock
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VILLAIN PLOT - TERRA
Region: Bluvink

Bluvink Propoganda: As the people of Bluvink look on in horror, the propogandists will have to broadcast their message and garner sympathy from the masses.
Conflict: The people of Bluvink lead very comfortable lives in no small part to the factory and the industry and work it brings, losing it, even if no civilians were lost, is going to be a blow to the community. If the propagandists aren’t able to make a compelling argument, the populace’s mood will get ugly fast and they will actively help the soldiers find and eliminate the Corsairs.
Sign-Ups: Atom
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK PROPOGANDA
Region: Bluvink

Bluvink Escape: Once the message is broadcast, the team will need to escape. A disguised airship with two armors (players may choose 2 from the list) stored in the hull will be available for the Corsairs to make their getaway.
Conflict: The guard will be fully mobilized by this point and will likely attempt to give chase in Armors and airships, although they will likely break off when leaving Bluvink airspace.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK ESCAPE
Region: Bluvink

Vindess Guard: The Guard within the mines is much more meager, and with the miners turned to the side of the Corsairs they will be caught considerably more flat-footed. Two Schild Armors will be on standby and may be deployed once the Corsairs are found.
Conflict: The area will be chaotic and the civilians can be expected to be unhelpful at best to the soldiers. While keeping the soldiers off the team is important, what is equally important is ensuring the soldiers don’t turn on the civilians and start making examples of them if they suspect collusion.
Sign-Ups: Ilhpyl, Rezo
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS GUARD
Region: Vindess

Vidness Propoganda: While many of the core mining group have turned to the Corsair side, much of the townsfolk may not know of the plan or have misgivings, and still count on the mine for their small town’s income. The atmosphere will be confused and upset.
Conflict: The Vindess community doesn’t have much, but they do have the mine and the consistent profit it brings in. The operation is going to change their lives and they must be convinced that it will be for the better or they may turn on the Corsairs.
Sign-Ups: Renne, Shu, Link, Thomas
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS PROPOGANDA
Region: Vindess

Vindess Escape: Once the message is broadcast, the team will need to escape. They will also need to evacuate any of their co-conspirators who are still in the town. A hidden airship with two armors (players may choose 2 from the list) loaded into the hull is available, but by the time the broadcast is finished more guard will be mobilized and they can expect heavier soldier activity, more armors, and airships.
Conflict: While the guard is much weaker and more provincial, they are likely going to attempt to go after civilians for colluding with the Corsairs. The Corsairs will need to quickly evacuate civilians, both co-conspirators and those caught in the crossfire, before they can leave.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS ESCAPE
Region: Vindess

Even with the shock troopers, the operation seemed to be going fairly well. But as the Corsairs broadcast to the city, slow, steady footsteps echo through the mostly deserted streets. A young woman holding a slim, curved sword in her right hand and wearing a red dress, her green hair streaming behind her strides purposefully toward the hideout where the Corsairs are tapping the communications. Her face is completely expressionless, and a crown rests lightly atop her head, it's gem gleaming with an eerie blue light. As she approaches, she raises her hand.

"Firaga."

A streaking ball of flame, like a meteor, launches itself at the Corsair's position.

[ Note: I wrote this intending it to take place before Terra shows up so Villain Plot participants can join in, if desired. Here's my plotting comment in case you want to discuss in a post. Otherwise you can reach me on plurk @ [plurk.com profile] thoughtbubble ]

Atom is among those who have been rushing to set up the machinery to hijack the Empire's broadcast lines. With everything in place, he joins the others flipping switches and powering it all up. All of them do their best to ignore the sound outside of people gathering. The atmosphere is tense, between the upset crowd, the mission at stake, and the expected Imperial troops soon to arrive. Eyes glance towards the entrance of their makeshift tent station and up towards the skies for signs of the Imps flying in.

Broadcast starting in five. Someone announces.

Atom looks at the microphone sitting out in the middle of the madness in the tent. "Who's giving the speech? Or is it going to be a recording from the leaders?" he asks.

The glow of the terminal illuminates the darkened safe house where Renne prepares to take over the communication system. With the last preparations made, she levels the mic at Thomas.

"All right. We're live in three... two... one..."

A final keystroke and the system comes under her control. The mic is now live.

Kirishima, you are cleared to sortie. Good luck, Red Demon.

Kanna laughed through the radio feed. "Where I'm going, I don't need luck."

Ether thrummed into the extremities of the standard-issue Schwert as she felt its main systems engaging combat mode. "Good. It's just like I remember."

No need for a warmup. It's time to take off at a run-- those opposing Armors wouldn't wait for anyone, and this was an escort and protective action.

They don't have the luxury of resting, much less stopping to lick their wounds, not yet. Donnie doesn't even remember getting this far, their evacuation from the scene of Terra's attack a blur. Other Corsairs were taking care of the wounded and here he is, moving with them towards the airship.

Things still hurt, and it's a wonder he's even able to walk at all. He feels off, a different kind of weary than from pulling several all-nighters, wired by adrenaline, the only fuel keeping him functioning.

Vaguely he can tell the difference once they're aboard, the temperature not too much different inside than out, but overall he still feels cold for all the layers he has on. He stands there just inside the ship while everyone hurries about to make preparations for the departure, a small rock sitting in the middle of a stream of activity.

Rezo waits across the dusty street from the safehouse where other Corsairs are preparing to send out the broadcast. The atmosphere in the town is expectant, despite the smallness and poverty of the community. Everyone's looking forward to the fireworks, even if not everyone is expecting the same kind.

In one hand, Rezo holds a pocket watch. His hearing is sharp enough that he can pick up the faint sounds of it ticking, counting down the seconds to the mine's explosion. Fifty-three. Fifty-two. Fifty-one.

Even once they begin Rezo and the rest of his team will need to stay alert, as their job is to protect the broadcast team from the Imperials who will immediately be looking for them.

And yet, more than protecting the broadcast, perhaps the biggest priority is not to betray the civilians who have put their trust into the Corsairs. If they suffer greatly from this, then it will be a severe black mark against both the purpose of the mission and any future attempts to win the citizens of the Empire over.

Sixteen. Fifteen. Fourteen...

Sharkhunter, this is Central. You are cleared for Lima Romeo. Weapons hot, focused on eyes and ears.
A pause. Oki took a moment, as she was prone on a roof overlooking the broadcast location from some distance away and the street laid out in front of her like a long corridor. She was concealed under some refuse and other things, looking like nothing more than junk against a rooftop from above and very little from the front. She observed, looking for the guards with scanners and comms - the nose end of her rifle's barrel was a tube of bound cloth that would deaden the sound and conceal the flash, provided she did not overuse it...

"Sharkhunter?" She thought quietly, searching for targets in range. "I've had stranger callsigns."

She knew this was no training exercise, but it also wasn't a complete extermination, either. This was not an op from the High Table after all, it was a surgical, precision action.

"Leave that action to Baba Yaga," she muttered, so low, that neither her radio nor anyone that wasn't right next to her could have heard.

The foremost plan was knocking down the scanners. The actual guards were targets once they were a real threat, in which case, her usual tactic was to drop them, quick and clean.

And there was other training, other plans, once engagement with the enemy turned the original plan into a pile of steaming mulemuffins.

The day of the event comes. Nephenee didn't feel comfortable speaking, for sure, and she felt she's no good at this "propaganda" thing ("Ain't that where ya grow plants from clippin's?" were her exact words, thereby solidifying she needs to be nowhere near planning that), but harassing baddies and keeping folks safe? Oh yeah, she can do that.

Though, the Sentinel might appear to be a bit odd at first, given there's a small basket hidden under where shield would sit on her back, underneath some of the long, cape-like fabric there, and there's a certain kitty there...

Look, the cat needs to be safe, and she will do her damnedest to make it so.

While the speech is just about to start, she looks back over her shoulder with a quirked eyebrow. "So, Yuki, ya were kinda quiet 'bout what ya can do inna fight. Ya wanna share 'fore we gotta be on our toes, or...?"
