EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR EXECUTION LOG

The time is nearing midnight as New Year revelers mingle, many already quite drunk. The night air is crisp and cold as the Empire prepares a fanfare and fireworks display to ring in the New Year. Concealed among the revelers, cloaked Corsairs fan out, preparing to play their part. The explosives have been set and primed, all that’s needed is to broadcast the message and get out, ideally without losing anybody. Simple, right?

For most of the Empire, the event goes off without a hitch. However, in the mining community of Vindess, and in the Imperial City of Bluvink, the explosions shake the settlements to their foundations. Screams of panic start to spread as the Mine begins collapsing upon itself in Vindess, while the weapon’s facility in Bluvink goes up in flames, albeit surprisingly contained considering the amount of ordnance usually stored within.

Panic erupts into the streets as confused Imperial soldiers spring into action, barking orders and drawing weapons, although they have no idea who caused this. The speakers, placed to play the Emperor’s New Year speech and provide musical accompaniment to the fireworks show, suddenly spring to life. The Corsairs step up to speak, knowing they have little time Imperials track down their signal and re-take control of their communications system, as well as send soldiers to beat down their door.

MISSIONS

Sign-Ups are still open but we will post the current groups as they stand. The following missions are available, you may participate in as many missions as you wish so long as they are in the same region.

There will be three major stages to each log, each receiving their own top level. The final top level, Escape, is open to all characters in the region and can consist of multiple threads or one big singular thread depending on preference. Villain plots will take place during the first two stages. Depending on numbers, if desired players can combine stage 1 and 2 into a singular thread. If combined, the header should read [LOCATION] GUARD AND PROPOGANDA

Bluvink Guard: Heavily armed and armored Imperial Shock Troops, as well as a flight of three Feder Armors will be dispatched to keep the peace and destroy the Corsair group. The Guard group needs to beat or confuse the Shock Troopers during the speech
Conflict: The Shock Troopers will be out in force and will be quickly trying to track down the signal. If Troopers with scanners are left alone they will quickly encircle the broadcasters so the Guard will need to harass or otherwise disrupt the scanning to keep them guessing while the broadcast happens.
Sign-Ups: Nephenee, Yuki
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK GUARD
Region: Bluvink

Villain Plot - Terra:Wearing the Slave Crown and enhanced by the Empire’s boosting drugs, Terra’s consciousness sleeps while her body is used to wreak havoc.
Conflict: Terra will be going directly to the Propogandists as soon as they are identified, and will need to be stopped lest she burn them alive in their hideout.
Sign-Ups: Donatello, Natalia, Deedee, Harlock
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VILLAIN PLOT - TERRA
Region: Bluvink

Bluvink Propoganda: As the people of Bluvink look on in horror, the propogandists will have to broadcast their message and garner sympathy from the masses.
Conflict: The people of Bluvink lead very comfortable lives in no small part to the factory and the industry and work it brings, losing it, even if no civilians were lost, is going to be a blow to the community. If the propagandists aren’t able to make a compelling argument, the populace’s mood will get ugly fast and they will actively help the soldiers find and eliminate the Corsairs.
Sign-Ups: Atom
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK PROPOGANDA
Region: Bluvink

Bluvink Escape: Once the message is broadcast, the team will need to escape. A disguised airship with two armors (players may choose 2 from the list) stored in the hull will be available for the Corsairs to make their getaway.
Conflict: The guard will be fully mobilized by this point and will likely attempt to give chase in Armors and airships, although they will likely break off when leaving Bluvink airspace.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read BLUVINK ESCAPE
Region: Bluvink

Vindess Guard: The Guard within the mines is much more meager, and with the miners turned to the side of the Corsairs they will be caught considerably more flat-footed. Two Schild Armors will be on standby and may be deployed once the Corsairs are found.
Conflict: The area will be chaotic and the civilians can be expected to be unhelpful at best to the soldiers. While keeping the soldiers off the team is important, what is equally important is ensuring the soldiers don’t turn on the civilians and start making examples of them if they suspect collusion.
Sign-Ups: Ilhpyl, Rezo
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS GUARD
Region: Vindess

Vidness Propoganda: While many of the core mining group have turned to the Corsair side, much of the townsfolk may not know of the plan or have misgivings, and still count on the mine for their small town’s income. The atmosphere will be confused and upset.
Conflict: The Vindess community doesn’t have much, but they do have the mine and the consistent profit it brings in. The operation is going to change their lives and they must be convinced that it will be for the better or they may turn on the Corsairs.
Sign-Ups: Renne, Shu, Link, Thomas
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS PROPOGANDA
Region: Vindess

Vindess Escape: Once the message is broadcast, the team will need to escape. They will also need to evacuate any of their co-conspirators who are still in the town. A hidden airship with two armors (players may choose 2 from the list) loaded into the hull is available, but by the time the broadcast is finished more guard will be mobilized and they can expect heavier soldier activity, more armors, and airships.
Conflict: While the guard is much weaker and more provincial, they are likely going to attempt to go after civilians for colluding with the Corsairs. The Corsairs will need to quickly evacuate civilians, both co-conspirators and those caught in the crossfire, before they can leave.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VINDESS ESCAPE
Region: Vindess

The Corsair nods grimly, noting that response isn't exactly a 'no' at least. "All right then-"

"I'll go with him."

The turtlekin speaks up, trying to look more confident than he feels, but he knows Harlock can't be feeling too much better than he's feeling right now. Maybe between the two of them they can pull this off.

He turns when he heard the voice, and he doesn't try to dissuade him - they're both banged up and running on adrenaline, but he can see the set of Donnie's jaw.

Harlock gave a sharp nod to him of acknowledgement - and appreciation. It's certainly not his ideal circumstance, but they have a ship and comrades to protect, and really, it's not that much different from piloting one of the Space Wolves, he just need to get used to the differences.

Fast.

Glancing between them, the Corsair deliberates briefly before nodding. They really don't have much manpower to spare, and if they mean to get away, they need as many hands on deck as possible.

Donnie draws in a slow breath, nodding back at Harlock. They have an objective, which is ultimately better than being left untethered, dealing with whatever emotions were swirling in the aftermath of their previous fight. He clings to it desperately, at the very least no longer looking lost. He needs to help his fellow Corsairs, help Harlock. He...he can do this.

"Let's go," he says, barely catching himself from a stumble as he moves for the Armors. "We'll use the Feder."

He moves quickly, the Feders, something more nimble would be easier for him. Being able to do something was better than sitting and waiting, even if logically he knows this may not be the most medically advisable thing to do.

"We just need to discourage pursuit," He comments as he approaches one of the Feder, climbing up to the cockpit as the mechanics quickly cleared the floor as they perform last-minute checks on the Armors for readiness before giving the pair the all clear to get in. "With everything else we did Bluvik, it is unlikely they are willing to commit too many soldiers to a long-distance chase."

Donnie nods, waiting until Harlock gets himself situated. In the meantime he slips his arms out from the straps of his battle shell, leaving it on the floor. He doesn't need the extra bulk if they're going to be squeezing in.

Everything aches as he pulls himself up and in, and he fights off the claws of exhaustion as he settles in, looking over the controls.

"Hopefully they won't be," the turtlekin says as he starts flicking switches and prepping the take-off sequence. "You're going to have to handle most of the maneuvering and attacks. I'll do what I can to keep them off of us. Whenever you're ready, captain."

Harlock did his own checks, reminding himself it lacked some of the advanced scanners that he was familiar with, as his fingers brush against the trigger guard, flicking it open before closing it, as they move ghost-like, reminding himself what each do, it's almost like an early fighter jet.

"Ready," then he added. "Watch my right," while he had a little over a decade to adjust, this wasn't his usual controls, and his nerves are frayed with aches and needles - the pirate had to be realistic and not let his pride get in the way, as painful as it'd be to admit it.

There's a hiss as the clamps and restrains keeping the Feder in place released, and a crowkin waved an enchanted lantern as the hatch opens - signalling that it was now safe to move.

Then the Feder jerks sharply as Harlock grunts, annoyed at him - too much pressure. He eases, and the next steps were smoother, a gait not unlike a horse he thought to himself.

"Will do," Donnie says. He'd already situated himself more on that side, bracing himself as well as he can.

Tired and hurting as he is, there's something about being in the cockpit of an Armor that stokes his adrenaline reserves. He's used to feeling the forces of the movement within such a suit, and once they hit the air, it's such a strange sensation, feeling your stomach flip, but nothing further pulling you down.

An almost manic grin blooms across the turtlekin's face at the rush, his grip tightening around an side handlebar. He'll feel absolutely horrible later on, but right now, he's in the moment.

The Armor's gait smoothes as he quickens the pace into almost a trot, feeling the palpable tension, a certain kind of electrical awareness that only comes from rushing into danger. There is enough familiarity, and enough instinct that once the initial jerks and sense of balance was overcome, moving was - well not natural, but familiar.

With a leap the Feder sprang from the ship, and a flick, what should have been a sharp descent felt more like a gentle glide.

There was no time to ponder or consider the feeling as they were greeted with gunfire.

"That was quick," Donnie says. At least for the moment it's straight-forward, but he'd rather not test the integrity of the Armor. They're drawing attention though, and anything focused on them meant it wasn't focused on the airship.

Purple light traces just off to the side as he builds up a shield outside of their Armor, interlocking plates much more thought out than the haphazard one that he'd thrown together in an attempt to protect the broadcasting building from magical flames. But he knows what to expect from that force now, he realizes. And because of that, he knows he can easily construct something that can turn away bullets. These are nothing compared to that magic assault.

"There's two- they're splitting up and coming around."

"Quick on the draw," he remarked wryly, as he notices a growing familiar glow - another shielding spell, best not to overtax him, but the extra breathing room is appreciated.

An attempt at boxing them in - not a bad idea, but one that could easily backfire if they split too far in an attempt to get the drop. As they landed, Harlock immediately takes them on the move, coaxing the Feder into a run, his off-hand hovering close to the trigger of the guns as he veers left to keep from getting pinned - and more importantly keep the Imperials' attention away from the ship.

Donnie doesn't hold the shield any longer than he has to, knowing he's only got so much in reserve. He lets it go the moment they've pulled out of immediate range. Shields are still relatively new to him, but the shape vaguely echoes that of the battle shell he'd made for himself.

One of the other Armors lands not far from them, shots trailing after them. The other remains airborne, looping around to try getting in front of them, gunshots pelting the ground and making way towards them.

Shots trailing, the one landing seem to favor the left, he kept moving not staying any longer than it would take to either turn or dodge - taking take burst of gunfire when he felt he had a decent lock on the target. The one flying will be troublesome - but the object was delay and withdraw, not defeat - though that one is hard with two going after them.

Harlock breathes out, listening for any warnings if the armors suddenly change tactics or more joined the fray, focusing on disabling the one that landed - the faster he could take one out of the fight, the better.

He's going to need a goddamn drink after this.

With Harlock's intended target clear, Donnie keeps an eye out on the other's movement.

"Aim for the joints, easier to disable them that way. If we can get around them, take out the thrusters and they won't be able to follow us up," he suggests, trying to maintain an even breath. Adrenaline rushes aren't that great when all he's doing is basically standing around, the cramped position making it a pretty miserable spot to be in.

He sees the airborne Armor try coming around again, this time arcing in from the right. "I'll keep this guy off us," he says, hand tightening around the bar as he focuses. There's a flash of purple that erupts off to their right, the flare causing the Armor to veer away suddenly, rocking slightly as its back is to them briefly while the pilot attempts to stabilize.

"Roger." The man's voice was low, tense - acknowledging the advice as he focused - aiming for the arm joints, the less bullets flying their way the better - hearing the sound of bullets grazing the armor - and no doubt hitting, but so far it hadn't hit anything vital.

He sensed more than actually saw the flash, as he presses the fight, trying to move the Feder without pressing too much against Donnie, or compromising his ability to move.

A burst of light and smoke erupted from the grounded armor's right arm, quickly strafing to get behind before they can recover.

A flare shouldn't have taken anything out of him, but for a moment Donnie can almost swear he still sees the flash of afterimages even though he hadn't even been looking at the effect itself. He squeezes his eyes shut, trying to fight off a migraine, reflexively pressing himself against the side of the cockpit to try steadying himself as he feels the Feder move along with Harlock's maneuvers.

The smoke from the damaged Armor serves as a good screen for their own, a few shots pattering across the enemy thrusters before one blows from an ill-timed boost. The force knocks the Armor off its feet. One stalled- just in time too, because the other one's coming around again from above.

freearcadia: (My good eye)
From: [personal profile] freearcadia
As the grounded armor tried to force it's right arm to work, Harlock makes a quick strike against the left, using the smoke to draw back into a better position, scanning the skies.

The flying armor seem pause, before moving, unsure due to the smoke. Harlock's eye narrow - he could tell he's starting to get to his limits as he's starting to see creeping colored blobs on the rightmost edge of his vision, better get this over before the phantom pain also rears its head.

"The thruster... seems like the best target," He murmurs almost more to himself. "We pull back after this one." Harlock hated running, but logically this was the best call as he kept moving, waiting for the light from the thruster through the haze and smoke as he doesn't allow himself to stay still.

purplexing: (still got the fight)
From: [personal profile] purplexing
"We're just buying the ship time," Donnie reminds him, opening his eyes again. He can't make out much through the smoke, and doesn't know how long they can wait.

"I'll give 'im something to chase, should give you an opening."

It has to be believable however, something small wouldn't be enough of a decoy. Lines of purple light trace in the air again, building a thruster from the inside out. The turtlekin sucks in a sharp breath as it flares and shoots off through the smoke, but he forces himself to keep his eyes open as he holds it together.

Another flare of light bursts within the haze, the other Armor taking the bait, turning its back towards them as it starts after the decoy.

freearcadia: (thanks I hate it)
From: [personal profile] freearcadia
"Right..." He exhales, he needed that reminder. This isn't the time or place to stand and fight, especially not with someone else in the cockpit, who is even more out of it than he is.

As Donnie worked his magic, he could feel the turtlekin tense. "Thanks," it was quiet, barely audible - but the sincerity was present. As the enemy takes the bait, Harlock takes aim.

Steady... steady... when it looked like it's right in crosshairs, he takes fire.

Date: 2025-01-27 01:09 am (UTC)
purplexing: (ready to deploy little brother)
From: [personal profile] purplexing
Donnie feels the first shots from the enemy Armor as it easily obliterates his construct, maintaining a grin only because he knows it'd be too late for them to turn about upon realizing the decoy.

A brilliant bloom of red flares through the smoke before trailing a new plume as the Armor veers downwards.

"Clear, let's go!" he says breathlessly, relieved but trying not to let his guard down, not until they get back to the ship.
