EVENT #03: WAR ORDER - EXTERMINATION EXECUTION LOG

The Imperial attack strikes like a thunderclap. In the traditional sense, a Legion is comprised of 1,000 men. In the Imperial reckoning, each individual legion holds a variety of troops - while some may have their own specialties, all legions are formidable and versatile fighting forces.

The legion that sweeps over the mine is an artillery-focused legion. A flight of airships descend upon the mine and starts raining devastation upon the facility. While the mine itself is left intact, an airship with heavy shock troopers lands in front of it, the soldiers immediately entering the mine and sealing off the entrances and exits to preserve the facility and slay all within.

The legion that attacks Flotsam is an Armor Legion, and the flight darkens the skies as carrier airships and a swarm of armors descend upon the floating city. As the Corsairs launch their coordinated counterattack, they know in their hearts that successfully mounting this defense will be among the most difficult things they have ever done.

ALL CORSAIRS

Mine Defense Gunners: Corsairs will need to man the defense arsenal installed in the mines to strike back as much as they can against the Legion, before retreating to safety.
Conflict: The Legion will do their best to destroy all present artillery, characters will need to dodge the shelling.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read MINE DEFENSE GUNNERS.
Region: Hesaeth

Mine Evacuation and Destruction: Corsairs will need to evacuate any remaining personnel to the tunnels before collapsing them, as well as ensuring that the secret of the Corsair submersibles is not given to the Empire.
Conflict: The mine is crawling with Heavy Shock Troopers with orders to kill everyone on sight. Corsairs will need to evade or fight these troopers as they evacuate the final remaining personnel and bring the mine down on their heads.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read either MINE EVACUATION AND DESTRUCTION.
Region: Hesaeth

Defense of Flotsam: Flotsam is under heavy fire from the Legion, they must be fought back here and now. This log can take any number of permutations depending on how a character chooses to fight. All captured Armors will be made available for PC use for this fight, and can be claimed in this thread. All Flotsam airships will also be active in this fight and may be incorporated into the log. Flotsam’s sea ships are all generally armed with a hodgepodge of weaponry which will be utilized in this attack.
Conflict: A Legion is trying to destroy every last ship in the fleet and send you all to the bottom of the Eternal Ocean, and they have the firepower to back this up. The Legion consists of 7 carrier airships and 200 armors, as well as 800 general crew and landing forces. It will take all of the Corsair’s might to beat them back.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read DEFENSE OF FLOTSAM.
Region: Flotsam

Imperial Witch: A young girl with flowing green hair and empty, soulless eyes descends upon Flotsam. Upon her head rests an ornate bronze crown, and her Armor is like a ferocious beast. At her command, fire rises to her call - and she leaves naught but devastation and ash in her wake.
Conflict: This is a villain plot with a PC villain character - up to 4 characters may sign up for this plot on a first-come first-serve basis and the PC Villain will control the flow of the log. In general, the PC Villain will tag after all active participants, or after 24 hours have passed, whichever comes first.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, post in the sign-up thread and tag into the appropriate top level. The first 4 players to sign up may take part, and these players will receive lower priority in the next villain plot until all players have had a turn.
Region: Flotsam

Players will generally have free reign to narrate the event’s occurrences as they wish. For the Execution phase, please refer to the Conflict descriptor to get an idea of the kind of narrative difficulties you will encounter and feel free to make use of them as much or as little as you like to make the thread interesting.

Characters are free to use single large threads or multiple smaller threads to meet the character threshold at the player’s discretion.

If you wish to deploy a Gambit during your mission, in the subject line of the reply you’re using the Gambit in type GAMBIT: [NAME OF GAMBIT]. Using Gambits isn’t required for the success of a thread, but doing so will be taken into account when we factor out the successes and failures of the mission.

Due to the coordinated nature of the attack, characters may only participate in logs in a single select region for this mission as they are occurring simultaneously.

Ilphyl is mostly on sight as a medic and support. Which means they are trying to balance the need to keep some spells on reserve for healing, and some for protection. "I can cast up a wind barrier, if I know where everyone is shooting and avoid that. It will help with some of the debris."

"Wind?" Donnie glances briefly over at Ilphyl, not wanting to take his attention off the Imperials for long. He flinches as another attack pounds somewhere below. Those shots are too many and too close all the same...

"We can't do too much aiming with these since they're mostly fixed, at most adjust the angle. The direction we're shooting otherwise is pretty obvious," he says, pointing out towards the line of ships in the near distance.

Ilphyl nodded, and started casting a wind wall, aiming to more block the flyign debris from misses than direct hits. It would be something. "How long do we need to hold out?"

Donnie tips the next cannon up slightly. Double the charge? He'll have to do it on a reload with these already set. Touching it off, the cannon gives a *thumf* as it fires.

"Not sure- for as long as possible. We shouldn't have too many people to evacuate but I don't know how the progression rate is until someone says something over the network. As long as we can keep things up, we keep firing."

Ilphyl nodded, readying their own spells for extra artillery. "If need be, I can bring up the rear. I'm good at hiding and moving through caves."

The thought of recapture was unnerving. Ilphyl imagines that the Empire would be even less kind to captured Corsairs, whether they were from this world or not. But Ilphyl also knows that it is a lot harder to spot a shapeshifted druid than most other people.

With little idea as to what most people can do, he can only assume that they at least know their own abilities best. His thoughts flash back to the airship and Shu during their last mission, face pinching at the memory as he shakes his head.

"Be careful all the same. The Imperials are dangerous, and I doubt they'll take prisoners..." Shelling the mines is already pretty good proof of that, and Donnie doesn't want to think of what's going on at Flotsam. No, he can't think about how things are going there, not when he has to worry about things on the ground.

He sets off another cannon, which goes off only seconds before yet another salvo comes from the airships, causing things to shake and sending more debris exploding towards them.

Ilphyl winced again. "At this rate, we'll be doing a fighting retreat soon."

"Just a little more..." Donnie grunts, but even he's starting to think a tactical retreat is going to be necessary sooner than later.

"We just-" He gasps as he catches a glimpse of what's coming their way, moving to pull Ilphyl down before the next shots smash into the masonry above the cannons.

Ilphyl does let themselves be pulled down, without even making a sound. "What is it?" they ask, then repeat themselves when they realize their normal instinct to speak quietly when in danger meant they would not be heard above the guns.

The turtlekin takes a moment, too busy trying to make sure they're not in danger of being crushed by anything.

"They're getting better," he's forced to concede, glancing towards the nearby cannons. At least one of them had been compromised, and the debris was going to make it difficult to pull the others back for reloading without getting hit by more incoming shots. "Don't think we can hold out much longer here. Another hit like that and we'll be buried with the cannons."

spacetogrow: (annoyed)

"I'd rather not have to dig us out," Ilphyl noted. "If we pull back, are you going to do a fighting retreat or just get out?" There was no judgement there -- if Donnie was in charge of the big guns, then he might not be trained in narrow tunnels. "Or I think there are others setting explosives to slow pursuit."

Which... cave ins were terrifying, but hopefully the first detonation would cause the Empire's soldiers to be sensible and move slowly to disarm them, rather than keep charging forward. Ilphyl doesn't trust the Empire's leadership won't just orders soldiers forward anyway, and accept the casualties.

purplexing: (shouldn't we talk this over)
From: [personal profile] purplexing
"And I'd rather not be buried either way," Donnie had to add. "We already set up the tunnels to collapse them, so hopefully the explosives trigger like they're supposed to once everyone's cleared the site."

But there were so many things that could go wrong and if they didn't leave soon enough, they might just get stuck up here, which wasn't any better.

"I'm setting the remaining guns here all off at once. Then, we make a run for the tunnels," he said, moving to prime the cannons. "Keep an eye out for me, I can't do both."

"I'm going to have to change forms for that," Ilphyl said. "It's too bright outside for me to see clearly."

purplexing: (of course I did...n't)
From: [personal profile] purplexing
"Change...? Oh." He looked confused for a moment before he shrugged and nodded.

"Do what you need to do so long as you don't make yourself a target," he said, resuming his work. They didn't have much time to dawdle, not with the Imperials still trying to take them out.

Ilphyl nodded, and suddenly there was an osprey instead, which fluttered to an an empty crate to have somewhere to perch. Birds of prey had sharp eyesight, and the osprey also could see under water as well if needed.

It did mean that a warning was going to have to be an osprey's call rather than a verbal one. Iphyl studied the approaching army? fleet? and noticed one was preparing to fire. They called out to Donnie.

purplexing: (of course I did...n't)
From: [personal profile] purplexing
Whoa, that was fast. Donnie glanced over and found himself in the company of a bird. -right, do your job!

He started winding a wire between cannons, jerking his head up at the osprey's cry. Quickly he threw himself down just before another shot glanced off the wall, tossing up a spray of debris. Even then, Donnie continued to crawl behind the remaining cannons, looking back up once it seemed things were clear again.

Ilphyl kept their eyes on things, but so far, the shots were still mostly going wide. Still producing debris, but that was more covering the air in dust. They wait for Donnie to finish, hopping from one foot to another with a bit of nervous energy.

purplexing: (I have an app for that)

"Almost..." Donnie said, mostly to himself, but as soon as the attacks seemed to die down a bit, he was up again, threading the last bit of wire.

"All right Imperials, you want heavy artillery, I'll give you heavy artillery...."

He splayed his hand in front of him, lines of glowing purple tracing out some kind of tool to ignite things. "Things are going to get loud! Get ready to move!" he told Ilphyl, glancing briefly around to make sure they still had a clear route to head down towards the mines before he looked back out towards their enemies. He gave the magically formed striker a squeeze, a bright spark flashing in contact with the wire, the surge causing a chain reaction as the remaining cannons all touched off and fired as one.

Osprey wings are not the best for narrow passages, and Ilphyl reflected they should have picked a different form. They stubbornly cling to not changing back until they are clear from any enemy fire and well in the tunnels, where their normal eyes are better. They look back towards the entrance, confirming that Donnie was following them.

He was so glad that he was wearing noise dampeners. Not looking to see how effective that last assault had been, Donnie had taken off running the moment they cannons had gone off. At least keeping his feet moving helped save him from a stumble as things shuddered around them.

"Go on ahead!" he shouted after Ilphyl. They'd be faster, and once the tunnels began to branch it'd be better for them to split off either way. "Warn whoever's still around that the defense line's failed so they can hurry with evacuations!"

"Right!" Ilphyl adds a 'thumbs up' gesture in case they can't be heard. "Meet you back at Flotsam."

Because that is as good a way as any to say 'don't die out there'.

"Be careful!" Donnie shouted after them. He sure hoped there was a Flotsam to return to after all this.
