i. Vault Library: Over 100 years old and still not too old for picture books
Usually, Link is quite comfortable in libraries. Even if he’s not particularly academic himself, he’s spent more than enough time in them with Zelda. And he does always like a good novel. (Especially Romance. And Mystery. And most especially any book that was both at the same time.)
And yet, in the library he’s…less comfortable. Namely because he can’t actually read any of the books here. But his inability to read Imperial is exactly the problem he’s here to fix.
So now Link is curled up in a big comfy chair, frowning faintly at the picture book held in his hands. On the cover is a cute cartoon flying ship, and the title, A is for Airship.
ii. Vault Academy: Behold the unholy desk-shield
Link had ended up in the Academy’s basic ether training classes the same way he usually found himself in this sort of thing: by wandering around the place, opening doors to see what was behind them, and then shamelessly sticking around when he found himself in the middle of a lecture.
He hadn’t really expected anything to come from the basic Ether training class he found himself gatecrashing. Magic had never really been Link’s forte, after all. Any magical ability he’d possessed had usually come from someone else.
And yet…at the end of the lesson, something clicked. Something familiar, that he’d thought had been gone forever. Almost without thinking, he pulls his shield from his back. Puts it on his right hand, while reaching out with his right towards one of the classroom desks.
His right arm flickers, and it’s like there’s a ghostly shadow of another arm laid over his own. One with clawed nails and odd geometric bands encircling it, and that glows a bright green.
Then Link pulls...and suddenly, the table has shrunk - and attached to Link’s shield.
“Ha!” He cries.
iii. Flotsam deck: Advanced fish murder
Now that Link's mysteriously managed to regain the Fuse ability - and also his stash of shock fruit - there's only one thing to do.
Immediately start using it to really rake in the fish.
He starts on the deck of one of the fishing boats. Looks down into the water. And then when he spots a passing school of fish...draws his bow, pulls a shock fruit out of his back, and then attaches the fruit to the end of his arrow in a flash of green light.
When he lets the arrow loose, the water crackles with electrical energy! ...And a whole bunch of very dead fish start floating to the surface.
Time to jump in and start collecting!
iv. Flotsam kitchen: Pizza party [locked to Donnie]
Link wasn’t picky about foods: he liked all of them, practically in equal measure. But sometimes, he was in the mood for something specific.
Right now, that something was pizza.
Having given most of his Tabantha wheat to Shu, and not having much Hateno cheese in his pack, Link had substituted both for local ingredients. But the star of the show - the Hylian tomatoes - were straight from home.
And now is the moment of truth, when Link opened the oven and revealed his creation. Fresh and steaming hot, he pulls out a delicious Hylian tomato pizza.

Date: 2024-09-17 03:03 am (UTC)Picking at the table shield is enlightening-and deeply confusing. "You somehow really did fuse them together. Could a normal tools even cut this apart?" She turns it over, looking at it from several angles as her brow furrows in concentration-and a faint green glow in her eyes glows brighter.
"Maybe Maliach's Unweaving, or the Elrich Ethereal Engine would have an effect..."

Date: 2024-09-17 05:11 am (UTC)He also has absolutely no idea what 'Maliach's Unweaving' or 'the Elrich Ethereal Engine' is. But Angelika certainly seems like she knows what she's doing. He's content to just wait patiently, as a silent observer, as she works through the puzzle.
(Zelda would like Angelika, he thinks. If she were here, watching this, she'd have so many questions she'd want to ask...)

Date: 2024-09-17 06:49 pm (UTC)In the end, she just sits there, meditating on it for 15 minutes before she finally comes to a testable hypothesis. She moves the shield to her lap, places one hand on it-and one on her baton, as she begins to cast the unraveling, a slow, laborious spell that will take time to come to grips with and unravel what Link has fused together.
(Does experience with Zelda alert Link to what her green-eyed counterpart has forgotten here?)

Date: 2024-09-17 11:37 pm (UTC)Not to mention, Link's own use of his abilities had always been more of an instinctive thing. Something felt, something intuited, rather than something rationally understood. So Link just watches, and fails to notice anything that Angelika might have missed.
He does get a little bored after fifteen minutes, however. So he digs around in his pack, looking for something to fuse to his sword. Give it a little extra oomph. The materials he'd regained along with the pack were largely perishables, with most of the monster parts being gone. But he did have his stash of lizalfos talons, so he grabbed one and Fused it to the sword.
Now, the blade of the sword itself had transformed - into a wicked blade that was very much like the lizalfos talons.

Date: 2024-09-18 12:19 am (UTC)"Oh, I think I've got it! Watch this, I've reached a critical point-the fusion should unravel in just a few seconds!"
She's almost shining with pride as she focuses her attention on the shield, a bright, wide smile on her face as the experiment begins to come together. She beams in triumph as the shield begins to rock back and forth-

Date: 2024-09-18 01:34 am (UTC)Instead he darts forward, immediately picking up the table and getting it off her. With it now safely set aside, he leans forward and peers at her with deeply furrowed brows and a look of concern. Is she okay?!

Date: 2024-09-18 02:04 am (UTC)Quick, say something Angelika. "You're pretty strong."
Stupid! Say something else!
"Class is over, right? I'd better get ready for the next one."
no subject
Date: 2024-09-18 02:50 am (UTC)Right now though, he just looks at her. Blinks, and nods. Yes, he is strong. This is a demonstrable fact. And also something that tends to come along with that collection of titles that he has, actually.
Since she's talking about that though, and about the next class starting...well she must be okay then. So Link feels comfortable standing up, and getting ready to go. "Okay," he says, as he sheaths his sword - the one which now bears a rather unusual looking blade, thanks to his newfound ability. "Thank you," he adds.

Date: 2024-10-01 02:14 am (UTC)She does catch an eyefull of his sword and say "Wait how are you gonna fit that into the same scabbard-" before he sheathes it anyways. Huh, maybe there's more to that spell than she thought. "Oh, um, sure. Let me know if you ever need to have something split apart again. I might be able to do it faster."

Date: 2024-10-01 10:07 am (UTC)Good to know that Angelika could help un-fuse things in the future, though. He might need that, if he ever ended up fusing something that later turned out to maybe not have been a great idea.
So he gives her a nod, and says "Okay," to show he understands. And then, because it's apparently time to go, he adds; "Bye."
And then runs out of the classroom.
