MISSION #01: SAND AND IRON PREPARATION LOG

MISSION #01: SAND AND IRON

With the operation fast approaching, the Crimson Corsairs mobilize to prepare. As is often the case, the Supplier and Infiltration teams take the lead, deploying within Elysium and on the continent of Hesaeth. These preparations will be vital for the success of the operation team, and the Corsairs have devoted significant resources into seeing it through.

The Corsairs have delivered their verdict, and the mining site will be Captured for the benefit of the Crimson Corsairs. We expect this will invite swift reprisal from the Empire, and the Corsairs are expected to prepare assiduously to ensure unnecessary loss of life can be avoided.

The following missions have been registered for completion. For a character to count as having participated, they must have a minimum of 3 comments in the mission thread. Characters may only participate in missions in one of the available regions, but may participate in up to two threads if desired. If more than the minimum number of log participants is available for a given log, it will impact the efficacy of the preparation. As this is the first mission, the numbers have been kept intentionally low, we will assess requirements based on how we see player participation from this event and adjust as necessary.

SUPPLIERS

Gathering Supplies: This will mostly consist of gathering ingredients to make the food and drink to be distributed among the celebrants. It might involve hunting, foraging, farming, or other methods of production or gathering depending on your character’s preference. Failure to properly stock Elysium for the party will make the visiting officers angry and alert, ensuring they can mount a more effective defense of Hesaeth.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read GATHERING SUPPLIES. At least 4 characters will need to participate in this mission among all mission threads to make this a success.
Region: Elysium
Participants: Link, Snufkin, Maomao, Kaine (4/4)

Venue Preparation: This will consist of preparing the venue for the performance and banquet. It involves setting up the area, as well as constructing areas for seating and staging for the performances which will be held in the banquet hall. Failure to properly prepare will make visiting officers bored and restless, ensuring they can mount a more effective defense of Hesaeth.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read VENUE PREPARATION. At least 4 characters will need to participate in this mission among all mission threads to make this a success.
Region: Elysium
Participants: Momo, Musse, Eva, Link (4)

Munitions Development: The assault on Hesaeth will be a sneak attack, but extra firepower is always appreciated. Based on the recent salvage we’ve recovered, we believe we can make either a lethal poison or a sleep gas to be fired at the labor camp barracks. There is considerable argument among the Corsairs over which should be used, the sleeping concoction will potentially allow for the taking of captives. The poison gas will be potentially safer in neutralizing major threats, but there are many among the Corsairs and Imperial citizenry who will find the use of such a weapon abhorrent and this may lower our standing among our allies.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read either MUNITIONS DEVELOPMENT - SLEEPING GAS or MUNITIONS DEVELOPMENT - POISON GAS. At least 2 characters will need to participate in either of these missions to make this a success.
Region: Vault
Gambit: This will make up to two Gambits available - the Sleeping Gas Gambit and the Poison Gas Gambit. Either will be available for a one-time use in a mission log.
Participants (Sleeping Gas): Rezo (1/2)
Participants (Poison Gas): (0/2)

Illicit Substance Development: With the visiting officials, now is an excellent time for Elysium to put some of its finest hedonistic delights on display. To that end, they are developing more powerful alcohol and drugs to ensure the empire cannot mount an effective defense when the time comes. The enhanced alcohol should make the officers more likely to be asleep or impaired, whereas the drugs should ensure the officers are hallucinating and unable to give effective orders. Both should be able to completely incapacitate the officers and keep them from providing any aid to the labor camp.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read either DRUG DEVELOPMENT or ALCOHOL DEVELOPMENT. At least 2 characters will need to participate in either of these missions to make this a success.
Region: Vault or Elysium
Faction: Elysium only
Gambit: This will make up to two Gambits available - the Potent Drugs Gambit and the Potent Alcohol Gambit. Either will be available for a one-time use in a mission log.
Participants (Drug Development): Maomao, Musse (2/2)
Participants (Alcohol Development): (0/2)

INFILTRATORS

Observation and Mapping: Infiltrators will need to get a full layout of the labor camp, including troop movements, locations of armaments, and as many details as possible. This information will be critical in ensuring the team can quickly neutralize the threats on the ground. Failure to properly scout the area will lead to the team encountering unexpected and potentially dangerous threats on the ground.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read either OBSERVATION AND MAPPING. At least 4 characters will need to participate in either of these missions to make this a success.
Region: Hesaeth
Participants: T-800, Id, Itsuzumi, Aerich (4/4)

Prisoner Uprising: Infiltrators will need to steal into the labor camp and prepare the inhabitants for their impending rescue. This includes informing them and arming them so they can assist, if willing.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read OBSERVATION AND MAPPING. At least 4 characters will need to participate in either of these missions to make this a success.
Region: Hesaeth
Gambit: This will make the Prison Revolt Gambit available. It will be available for a one-time use in a mission log, but can only be used on this mission.
Participants: Madeline, Noctis, Harlock (3/4)

Steal Dispatches: Knowledge is power, and the Corsairs can make tremendous use of the maps, dispatches, and orders that flow through prison camps like this. Infiltrators will need to enter officer quarters and sift through refuse to find these missives and bring them back to the Vault for analysis.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read either STEAL DISPATCHES. At least 2 characters will need to participate in either of these missions to make this a success.
Region: Hesaeth
Faction: Vault only
Gambit: This will make the Hamper Reinforcements Gambit available. It will be available for a one-time use in a mission log.
Participants: Donatello, Angelika (2/2)

Players are generally free to play out the mission however they wish in terms of their log. A mission’s success will be judged across all participants in all logs. Players who want to make final group planning may use the top level in this post. Any Gambits will be made immediately available once the log participation requirement is met. The Execution phase will be posted on July 10th, but the cut-off to complete a mission log successfully for the planning phase will be July 15th.

"Well, that's simply unacceptable," Musse says calmly as she takes in Momo's news. "I agree, we should send a group. Momo, Link, be dears and go see to the curtains. Either bring them back or clear the road, I have no preference as to which so long as the curtains arrive here. Eva, I believe we are now supplied, shall you and I begin building a stage?"

Okay. So the curtains were on a cart, and it needed help. Link nods, and then - with an expectant look towards Momo - waits for her to be ready before heading out and onto the roads.

It doesn't take long to see evidence of the overturned cart. The roads are packed. Link doesn't have any details about where the cart is located, but he glances at the street with the most chaos, and then looks at Momo with a clear question in his gaze.

This way?

Had he said so aloud, Kainé would commend him for having good taste. But alas!

As for the deer that got away, it won't get far. It's weakened now. She can head if off if needed.

She can probably carry more with her Shade-enhanced strength, but the question is whether she wants to. Or is willing to. Kainé knows the reasoning for this hunt, but she's not keen on killing more than is needed. There's no sport in killing animals as she'd much rather kill Shades or people that deserve it.

Kainé notices her companion looking around, but since Tyrann usually doesn't make himself known to others back home, she's not aware that the blonde man can actually hear the Shade. So she just gives him a quizzical look, then shrugs.

"Link, was it? Look, I'm not that great at this whole, teamwork thing. I can probably carry a deer myself too, but do we need more? Should we keep hunting or call it good?"

Whaddya mean 'call it good'? That's a crock of shit if I ever heard one! There's always time for more killin' kya ha ha!

Kainé rolls her eyes again, but says nothing to the Shade in return.

[Marcille didn't hide behind Laios. She just...casually took a small step or two until she was peering around his shoulder (she couldn't peer over his shoulders. Stupid tall...men!) at the cow.]

They're constantly throwing up their own food? Is that why they smell like that?

[Gross.]

Sounds good, seems like it'll be the T-800, Id, Izutsumi, and Aerich in that case. I'll get a toplevel up for us!

EDIT: Done!

Alas, Link wasn't really one for speaking his thoughts out loud. Or speaking in general, really.

Something he puts into practice when he shrugs. His usual approach to hunting was to get as much meat as possible, and then hoard it all in his korok-enchanted pack for months and months on end. But, that was a bit trickier to do when he didn't have his pack.

And there was that voice, again.

"...Who's that?" he asks. It seemed to be talking to her. Surely she would know?

Observation & Mapping (T-800, Id, Izutsumi, and Aerich)

[personal profile] knowhyoucry 2024-07-06 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
A group has been called to infiltrate the prison camp at Hesaeth to map the layout and gather intelligence for the upcoming mission, first to mobilize at a staging ground nearby. The T-800 had arrived early to gather some preliminary recon. By the time the others arrive, it has some information.

"I believe this mission has the highest probability of success if we are able to acquire uniforms and use them as cover to enter the camp." It states. "There are regular guard patrols in the vicinity around the camp. I recommend disabling a patrol and acquiring the necessary disguises." There are 3-5 guards per patrol, the probability of being able to find fitting uniforms for at least a few of them.

Momo nods. Either grab the curtains or clear the way. That's doable. She nods crisply at Musse's direction, and looks at Link.

"Right. We're on it."

She heads out onto the street with Link, and it doesn't take long for the overturned cart. Ooh, the report undersold how bad it was; cargo has been spilled everywhere and people are still going through it. An hour might have been optimistic.

She follows Link's gaze down the most chaotic street and nods. "Yes. Let's see what we have to work with before we decide on a course of action." She decides, and the heads down the street towards the stuck curtains.

"Makes sense." Id nods along. The plan's sound, and he has invested some time observing on his own before their appointed meeting time. For that reason, he pulls out a folded sheet of parchment he'd been using to keep records. "They've got a steady rotation schedule."

As he speaks, he unfolds the parchment, revealing notes written in practical, tidy script. Numbers, he thinks, are one thing they can all understand regardless of origin. Maybe. Hopefully. "If we time it right, we can get the drop on four of them — the two ending their shift and the two beginning theirs. Rear entry's more isolated, so we can avoid unwanted attention."

Not that he thinks any of them would go for the main gate.

It's a challenge just getting through; the upended cart had been packed full of crates when it crashed, and now they've all tumbled out and into the street. Adding to the mess are a few crates that have cracked open, their contents now littering the street. From the looks of it, the cart had been carrying largely metal cookware - cast iron skillets, saucepans, decorative metal bowls.

And around all this are other cart drivers wanting to get through - one notably laden with curtains - and a very snooty, irritated looking noble in a carriage, who has begun berating the cart driver as she tries to pick up the contents of her cart.

Link stops. Looks at all this. Momo had said they should see what they're working with, and it's a good plan. But seeing this, he can't not help.

"I'm helping her," he says, before pushing his way into the center of the chaos.

Aerich had volunteered, though he had conceded that he had the skills for mapping, the 'infiltration' part would be tricky. He accepted that the locals considered this... not against the rules of warfare (which permitted deception in any case), and he owed them a debt that needed to be repaid. He didn't have to like it, and he was experienced at lying by omission.

The other problem; his height would make him stand out, but maybe not as a guard. "If we can obtain garments that superficially resemble the uniforms, that may allow more options if we are unlucky in the choice of guards." There were a diverse set of species in this Empire, after all, and the uniforms were more extensive than he was used to.

Izutsumi seems to be slightly disinterested in proceedings, but she's listening all the same, ears and tail flicking as the discussion goes around. It's an interesting place to be - and an interesting mission they've been given. It's not an unfamiliar one. After listening for a moment longer she stifles a yawn.

"Yeah, sure, we can do that. But then we'll be on a bit of a time limit, right? Because someone'll miss 'em if they're gone too long."
xenovore: (that so?)

Some of that's probably manure.

[Laios tilts his head, looking down his shoulder at Marcille in slight puzzlement that she's there.]

Speaking of which, we'll also need to wipe off her udders before we start milking.
fuckthatdragon: (Suspicious)

[personal profile] fuckthatdragon 2024-07-08 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
How did she get manure on her own udders? This cow is disgusting!

[Do farmers do this kind of thing every day!? Marcille is suddenly seeing dairy products of all kind in a whole new light.]

I guess....as long as we wash our hands afterwards it would be okay.

Izutsumi makes a valid point, and that will have to be factored in. "It is unlikely the alarm will be raised immediately in that case. Likely they will be searched for within the camp first." That would give them more time before the guards become suspicious enough to raise an alarm, and they can use the guard population as cover, at least for a time.

"Do you have another method of infiltration to suggest?" It asks, since Izutsumi raised the objection, and it has no problems adopting to a different strategy if it will be more workable.
fray: (Default)

[personal profile] fray 2024-07-08 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it's Izutsumi's objection, Id glances her way. With proper timing, he thinks replacing a few guards should serve their purposes well enough, but he's not so rigid as to ignore other opinions.

They all have different experiences under their belts, and she could have unique insight. "Now's the time to talk ideas." He affirms.

Aerich cleared his throat. "Does anyone have any..." a pause while he fumbles for words, "etheric ability that allows for remote viewing of places? Or do we know of defenses other than the guards?"

Look, sorcerous protections (and the arms race that comes from others trying to counter those) are a part of his home culture. A random labor camp might not merit such defenses, depending on how common they were, but it is worth asking.

Ah, shit, everyone is looking at her now. Izutsumi frowns and glances away as she clears her throat.

"I didn't say it was a bad idea, I just said we gotta be aware of the limitations! That's it! Grabbing their uniforms will work, we just gotta be quick so someone else doesn't find 'em. Right? It's part of the problem we gotta deal with!"

OBSERVATION AND MAPPING - PRISONER UPRISING - Harlock, Madeline, Noctis

[personal profile] freearcadia 2024-07-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
The plan was set - disguises for the inquisition, and a small stockpile of weapons to bring to the prisoners.

Harlock looked over the collection as he added a few bolt cutters into the mix. "Here, manacles, locks, this should help - they might be able to break into the guards' lockers and procure more weapons that way." With that, the man goes to get changed. "My accent is a little strong, so I shouldn't be the one talking until we get past the guards." He then added as an afterthought as he pulled his hair into a loose bun, putting on the face-concealing helmet.

"Everyone ready?"
