EVENT#08 VINDESS LIBERATION MISSION LOG
Content warnings: Blood, Gore, and Cannibalism
The Corsairs strike quickly. As soon as Gaurus the Bleeder steps off the Imperial airship, Corsair airships emerge from hiding around the settlement and take to the air, peppering the Imperials with a salvo of cannonfire. Corsairs leap from the deck and emerge from hiding within the settlement, weapons drawn and battle-ready.
For his part, Gaurus the Bleeder meets the charging Corsairs without surprise. The man’s immense bulk is imposing enough on his own, but he carries an unmistakable stench of blood, death and decay about him. His enormous body is toned with heavy muscle, and his hands seem to permanently drip blood as he unleashes a feral belly laugh.
“Take them! Capture them! Flay them alive!” he bellows, his voice ringing out across the city. “Their corpses shall decorate my table, their heads my wall! Come lads, let us punish these rebels and teach them the pain and despair of standing against the Empire!”
The stench of blood seems to spread, thick and metallic as the eyes of the Imperial soldiers seem to dim, blood beginning to trickle from every pore like sweat and seep from their mouths in the place of drool. They surge forward, a beastial hunger consuming them as terror quickly spreads among the civilians who turn to flee. For good or for ill, the battle is joined. With Gaurus at its head, the axe of the Empire descends, and the Corsairs will need to bring their all to bear, lest they be ground underfoot.
All logs have full sign-ups, but characters are still welcome to join any open logs. Additional participants will boost the potential for the log’s success and potential bonuses. Outside of Closed logs, all logs can be as many open threads as the participants desire, involving as many of the total participants as they wish.
Consequences
There is the possibility of consequence, depending on the logs characters take part in and the amount of participants.
Serious Injury: A character is seriously injured and will require bed rest and intensive healing. If they choose to participate in an active and intensive log the following month, their injuries will impede them to the point that it may disrupt the log (but not necessarily make the log fail).
Minor Injury: A character is injured, but not badly. They will require some healing to recuperate but will otherwise be fine for logs in the following month.
MISSIONS
Vindess Raid: The Corsairs face off against Gaurus’s Bloodfrenzied Legion.
Status: Open
Description: Gaurus’s mastery of life ether allows him to manipulate blood within willing and unwilling targets. The Bloodfrenzied Legion are soldiers whose blood and hunger have been set aflame. They fight with more ferocity, move faster, and hit harder. They consume their own blood to fight harder, and thus are overwhelmed with a hunger for more blood, driving them to consume their fallen foes, ripping them apart and drinking their blood.
Bloodfrenzied soldiers are extremely dangerous, while a powerful Corsair may be able to take 3 in a straight fight, more is exceptionally dangerous. Corsairs will need to rely on high pressure and exceptional tactics if they wish to succeed. The Corsairs are buoyed by the local militia, Corsair support allowing some people to fight to the last for their families to ensure they escape.
Current Participants: Donnie, Raph, Rezo, Kanna
Log Leader: None
Anticipated Result: The Bloodfrenzied Legion is held at bay, and the Corsairs emerge relatively unscathed.
Escape Vindess: The Corsairs must cover the escape of the airships as they evacuate the civilians and keep themselves alive against the Bloodfrenzied Armors.
Status: Open
Description: The Bloodfrenzied Armors are armors piloted by soldiers under Gaurus’s Bloodfrenzied Legion. In this case, he uses his magic upon the armors as well as the pilots, so the armors enhance themselves by feeding off the blood of their pilot, compelling the pilots to fight aggressively and target large crowds of fighters on foot or civilians to bathe in their blood and enhance their combat prowess.
Additional details will be sent to the Log Leader.
Current Participants: Shu, Terra, Kanna, Harlock
Log Leader: Shu
Anticipated Result: With the placed traps, the Corsairs will emerge unscathed, their civilian charges maintained safely.
Evacuate Citizens: The Corsairs within the town will evacuate civilians, helping them flee the Bloodfrenzied Legion.
Status: Open
Description: The Bloodfrenzied Legion fights ferociously aggressively, specifically targeting civilians with an aim to tear them open, drink their blood and feast on their organs. They are the core of why Gaurus inspires such fear and obedience within the populace, and it will be difficult to maintain calm.
Corsairs will need to calm their charges and efficiently move them through the town, employing the maze of homes, pulling down break lines, and doing whatever they can to keep the soldiers away from the civilians.
Current Participants: Emery, Matt, Shu
Anticipated Result: The Corsairs will successfully evacuate the civilians, keeping them mostly safe from harm.
Tend Citizens: The Corsairs will need to tend to the wounds of the evacuated civilians, preventing as much death as they can.
Status: Open
Description: It’s rare for a civilian to survive a run-in with even one Bloodfrenzied soldier, but any who do will be brutally maimed. Additionally, in an escape wreathed in fire and devastation, injuries in the flight are common. Corsairs will have a range of injuries, from people torn open by soldiers to people crushed by falling, flaming debris.
Current Participants: Tsuyukusa, Matt, Thomas
Anticipated Result: The Corsairs will successfully heal and save a majority of those who can be saved, although casualties will still happen. Their success frees up the local militia to fight harder, aiding the Corsairs in their fight.
Entrap the Imperials: Before the arrival of Gaurus the Bleeder, the Corsairs set up traps around the town, ensuring they had many ways to entrap both the man himself, and his ships and armors.
Status: Open
Description: Corsairs will spend this quiet pre-battle time laying out traps meant to take down Gaurus the Bleeder and hamper the armors and airships upon landing. Corsairs have access to heavy explosives and enough poison to kill several large monsters, which may even be enough to slow down the man who can manipulate his very bloodstream with his ether.
Current Participants: Ilphyl, Aira, Natalia, Atom
Anticipated Result: The Corsairs will lay so many traps that they can target both the Assassinate Gaurus the Bleeder log and the Escape Vindess log.
Assassinate Gaurus the Bleeder: The Corsairs will face off against the head interrogator and Bloodfrenzied Legion commander Gaurus the Bloody.
Status: Closed, this log will be a single thread between all four participants
Description:Gaurus the Bleeder is an enormously powerful fighter who can manipulate blood on a wide scale. Those who face him in combat can hold their blood to a point, but if Gaurus manages to come in physical contact with a person he can begin to turn their very blood against them. Gaurus is exceptionally dangerous to approach, and must be handled with utmost care.
Gaurus is a huge, barrel-shaped giant who stands at 10’9” and wields cruel cleavers, hooks, knives, and spikes. He wears a bloodied apron over thick, high-quality leather armor, and his body is heavy and muscular. His combat power and ether control are further enhanced by the Empire’s drugs, making his capacity truly beyond belief.
Additional details will be sent to the Log Leader.
Current Participants: Link, Natalia, Atom, Ilphyl
Log Leader: Ilphyl
Anticipated Result: Voting will occur in a sub-thread at the start of the log. Either Gaurus will be captured and the team will be seriously injured or Gaurus will be killed and the team will escape with minor injuries.

Date: 2025-04-10 05:02 am (UTC)Red light flashes, engulfing Raph's arms like enormous gauntlets as he charges headlong ahead of the others into the fray, picking up speed as he punches through the crowd of blood-crazed soldiers rushing at their own dangerous pace. Shielded fists pummel both flesh and metal, pound for pound, each strike landing on spots closest to the ninja turtle's reach.
Hesitation only becomes a second thought the more he starts hearing the wetness upon impact. His eyes, unfortunately, don't betray him in this moment; paired with the stench, he can see red outside of what he projects.
A different shade of red, wet and alive and not healthy at all.
He likes red. But not like this.
"What's with these guys?! Something's gotta phase 'em!" Raph grimaces, letting the pair of large fists disappear to get a hold of his sai. Even if he did clear a way through, the legion is still coming at them. He dodges a soldier that leaps at him, spinning to kick another one away to buy some time.

Date: 2025-04-10 07:29 am (UTC)Raphael's exclamation jolts him back into focus, and Donnie tries his best to force down his nausea as he leaps into action.
Dropping down from the rooftop, he brings up his staff to catch the heavy blow of a blade before it can cleave into one of the poor fleeing civilians. The force behind it is still more than he'd anticipated, a leg buckling beneath the weight as he tries to brace his arms, cringing at the bloody face that snarls at him.
He conjures up a flare in front of that nightmarish visage, squeezing his eyes shut as the magenta light flashes, the soldier staggering back with a howl. The moment that pressure gives, the turtlekin swings his staff, taking advantage of that momentary imbalance, striking at vulnerable places, throat, arms. When the other doubles over, Donnie holds nothing back as he brings his weapon down with a vicious overhead smash.
"I...I don't know. They're kind of like..." He shakes his head. No, this is different. The soldiers at that research facility hadn't been bleeding like this.

Date: 2025-04-10 07:19 pm (UTC)The flash of light serves as a temporary distraction from where he's standing, with the soldiers who aren't that close jerkily swiveling their heads in the turtlekin's direction. Raph continues punching with weight behind each one to make sure they stay down.
"−Zombies?" He finishes the thought. It's the closest approximation he can make with his references. After a faint beat, he shakes his head. "No, this is a lot worse..."
More screams ring out and his fists clench around the stained tines of his sai, resummoning the red energy gauntlets that take up most of his arms. "Whatever they are, we're gonna have to take them down!" he shouts. "Keep them away from the civilians!"
He doesn't like the options they have, but there isn't much else they can do. If he personally can hold them back, then that's what he'll do to help the civilians who are still trying to leave. With a mighty yell, he gets back in there, driving his fist into another soldier's face.

Date: 2025-04-10 10:07 pm (UTC)Or licking blood! Donnie shudders, trying to focus again as he strikes at another soldier. Metal rings with each hit and he hates the accompanied wet sound behind his blows. He can't hit as hard as Raph and doesn't feel like he's making as quick a progress. Seeing Raph make use of...what did he call it again? Ninpo..? Donnie supposes it'd make better sense to upgrade his own weapon.
It's so strange how much of a difference having an Ether focus is, glowing lines building easily, forming a blade at the end of his staff for the glaive he's started to prefer when things start to get a little too intense. He swings it forth, slashing across the front of another soldier before he jerks the other end up to catch one coming up behind him in the chin. Then he spins as he brings the weapon in a broad arc to cut across that one's torso.

Date: 2025-04-11 03:04 am (UTC)Shu has seen this before. The Sanguinarch. Loathsome lord of the Vampire Sarkaz, decadent denizen of the council who manipulated Blood as easily as one might breathe. He bathed in the terror of his enemies, in the carnage he created with a single snap of his fingers. Hearken unto the feast of madness, and be baptized by the crimson claret, oh prey of mine...
But there is no time to gawk.
They come as a swarm, the Armors, and even from a distance, there is something not right. They move too quickly - too unpredictably and though they have sent off the airships filled with civilians first and covered their retreat with a defensive line, the Emperor's Armors do not seem interested in stopping for an engagement.
Atop her ox, Shu flinches as an Armor barely avoids clipping her on its way past. But it is obvious what they are doing.
"Everyone, break formation! They are targeting the civilian ships!"
Even as she broadcasts, a line of fire opens on the rearmost evacuating vessels.
((Hi folks, happy to tag you individually to NPC the combat / enemy or in a big group. The one thing is that I don't think maintaining a post order will necessarily be the best idea since that always takes quite a while so I would just say tag when you are free.))

Date: 2025-04-11 03:17 am (UTC)Shu, wondering if tying and gagging civilians is against the code of the Corsairs, murmurs into her communicator.
"I have the last of them from the eastern sector. A group of ten, one elderly woman, two children. We're on our way to the rendezvous point as quickly as possible, but I won't be able to get them through without a fight. Please join us if possible."

Date: 2025-04-11 04:37 am (UTC)At the announcement of Civilian ships being targeted, a tinge of guilt, a memory he squashed under indignant anger at the revelation. He leaps after the addled Armors as he fires a few to draw their attention away from the ships.
"Never turn your back on your enemy!" Harlock growled, broadcasting his voice, purposefully taunting.

Date: 2025-04-11 08:39 am (UTC)He catches the glow of magenta out of the corner of his eye, bearing witness to the blows Donnie lands on his foes while he focuses on extending the length of his right arm. It's awesome to see his brother in action, to see how proficient he is in close combat. It's also somewhat unsettling? He's using a blade. Why is this so surprising to him? He's so used to the drill and heavy artillery that this comes from left field.
Hey, maybe he should get back to helping the civilians.
The red arm becomes exaggerated, slightly bent out of shape before Raph regains control of it. He swings it forward, barely clearing several civilians to clothesline their blood-lusting pursuers.

Date: 2025-04-11 03:51 pm (UTC)"Protect!"
A barrier forms around the civilian ship, although it doesn't seem like it will hold for long.

Date: 2025-04-11 05:04 pm (UTC)He remembers how easily Nephenee had cut through Imperial soldiers as though they were nothing but ragdolls, and the blood that was everywhere. The knowledge that from thereon out, things would never be the same.
He remembers the cold rage and raw panic when Adolfus Gundhir had grabbed Shu's tail, distilled into a white-hot point of focus that he fashioned into his own magical blade, the first time Donnie had created the glaive, right before slicing off the man's offending hand.
He remembers the crushed body of a soldier lying smashed under a cannonball of his same creation.
Nausea grips at him, underlined by the overwhelming scent of blood. Donnie falters in his concentration, his bladed fizzling out mid-arc and it's like the soldier smells that hesitation, that sudden spike of fear. That flat of their own blade smacks hard against the turtlekin as he nearly folds over it by the impact, and just as he starts to fly back, with a horrible, maddened grin of bloodied teeth, the soldier turns his wrist so the blade cuts in just as it starts to pull away.
Donnie is flung, sent crashing into a wooden loading cart with enough force to splinter it.
Re: Entrap the Imperials
Date: 2025-04-12 12:33 am (UTC)The raccoon might not be native to the area, and certainly they don't normally carry backpacks containing their communications equipment and supplies. But they are agile climbers, and their dexterity is pretty good for an animal, so Ilphyl is starting to set up what they can to hinder Imperials in full kit, that can be quickly triggered by Corsairs (or even friendly civilians).
They will need to come back with a stronger form, or have an assistant to help move things. Really, this is making them appreciate the humanoid form all the more.

Date: 2025-04-12 01:15 am (UTC)She, and her custom Zepter, stride forward, breaking almost immediately into a run out of Terra's paling, crashing one clawed hand into the waiting torso of her immediate opponent, and landed a spiked elbow into another. She beckons them both, a bit cockily, and has almost certainly bitten off more than she can chew, but the evacuees are safe... For now. "Get them into the ships! Quickly!"

Date: 2025-04-12 04:50 am (UTC)There are three ships of evacuees in total fleeing the airspace. Terra's shield around the rearmost vessel holds as the Armors swoop in; one holds in place and begins to torch the barrier with arm mounted flamethrowers as others dive in with spear strikes and blade swings. The other two vessels are yet to be accosted, but more Armors are beginning to give chase. Harlock's attack hardly draws any attention whatsoever. Even as his bullets strike the reinforced steel, they continue to hone in on the civilians.
Shu, not a combat expert by any means, can still recognize when strategies need to be modified.
"Their attention cannot be diverted. These are not rational beings. Though I am loathe to say it, I wonder if spilling their blood might cause them to frenzy upon their allies."

Date: 2025-04-12 05:36 am (UTC)"Those damned Imperials - inflicting this on their own soldiers..." He swung his blade, his voice growing icy. "If they wish to drink blood - then let it be their own."
With that, he lunges the Feder into the fray in hit and run strikes, trying to aim for vital points on the Armor before immediately withdrawing out of range.

Date: 2025-04-12 05:51 am (UTC)"Thunder Beam!"
A burst of lightning and concussive force emerges from the Zepter, targeting the cockpits of the armors seeking to engage Kanna.
