EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR PREPARATION
With winter’s chill already setting in, Corsair laboratories are hard at work pumping out explosives for the operation to come. After extensive training, the crews of the Corsair airship brigade bring the infiltrators quietly to the Isles Above, all cabin lights doused to move stealthily to the drop point. There, Corsair specialists will disembark and plant explosives, as well as, perhaps, make contact with local workers and evacuate them if time permits. With all crews operating with quiet efficiency, the time is almost nigh to strike at the heart of the Empire itself.
Any mission marked Critical must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete. Missing Critical missions will have major negative impacts on the Execution mission in the following month. Supplemental missions can be completed or not, completing them will go toward achieving optimal results during the Execution mission next month. As with Critical missions, Supplemental missions must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete.
SUPPLIER MISSIONS
Create Explosives: Characters will need to create explosives and munitions for deployment.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: In order to get explosives that will make enough of a dent in the Imperial forces, Corsairs will need to develop them from the live rounds dropped above the vault. Logs can involve recovering salvage as well as construction of explosives.
Develop Precision Explosives: Characters will need to develop precision explosives to avoid undue damage to the civilians of Bluvink during the attack.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require some research and development from suppliers to find explosives that will detonate at very specific levels in order to not cause the volatile materials within the Bluvink factory to ignite and cause wide-scale damage to the town.
Develop Communications Hijack: Characters will need to develop a tool that can hijack communications within the Empire.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require recovering some Imperial communication technology from salvage or from the Vault and finding a way to dominate Imperial airwaves so they can’t shut down the Corsair propaganda.
INFILTRATOR MISSIONS
Set Explosives in Bluvink: Characters will need to sneak into the Bluvink factory and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The factory has regular guard rotations that can be figured out with proper observation, they will need to be avoided. The facility will also need to be properly cased so that the explosives can be set in places they will not be detected.
Set Explosives in the Vindess Mines: Characters will need to sneak into the Vindess Mines and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The mines have regular guard rotations and are constantly manned by serfs and servants. All will need to be avoided in order to set the explosives, and those manning the mines must be avoided at all costs.
NEGOTIATOR MISSIONS
Miner Negotiation: Characters will need to convince the miners to evacuate and to join with the Corsairs, as well as not tip off the Imperials.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: Many miners are distrustful of the Corsairs due to Imperial Propoganda, and several are Imperial loyalists even under the current circumstances. Several miners may need to be subdued in order to safely evacuate the area without their captors being alerted.
VILLAINS
Villain plots will be planned this month and will happen in the following month. Potential villains may post here to start workshopping potential plots that they may take part in next month.

Arriving a bit late to this, pretend I didn't forget to tag this
Date: 2024-12-21 01:16 am (UTC)Link may be just a little use used to explosions.
Walking towards Donnie, Link comes in from behind before circling around to move into Donnie's field of vision - at which point he leans in, and gives a little wave. Hi!
XD
Date: 2024-12-21 04:38 am (UTC)"Nice timing, actually. I was about to compare damage radius for your explosive flowers. Since we can't directly trigger it without being somewhere within range to do so, I'm thinking it'll be better put to use if set off from a chain reaction, but I need to see how much damage it can do on its own, first."
no subject
Date: 2024-12-23 03:30 am (UTC)Would Donnie like him to throw this one for testing?
no subject
Date: 2024-12-23 03:49 am (UTC)"Let me set up."
He moves to clear things from what's left of the other explosive tests, then sets up a small, empty barrel in the middle of a largish ring roughly drawn on the ground. He jogs back over, pausing as he considers something.
"...hm. I guess it'd be more difficult to trigger if we set it inside the barrel. Maybe if we flip it over and place it on top of it? It'll go off if you shoot an arrow at it, right?"
no subject
Date: 2024-12-26 11:54 pm (UTC)So he places the bomb flower on top of the barrel - probably not as carefully as Donnie would like, but gently enough. And then moves back, grabbing his bow as he does so.
He only notches an arrow though, and holds it loosely. He's not aiming it just yet - instead looking at Donnie, and waiting for an instruction to fire.
no subject
Date: 2024-12-27 12:21 am (UTC)He waits until Link's back behind the wall that's there for cover, doing a quick check through his goggles before he pushes them up. Looks good to him. It's a pretty rudimentary sort of test but it should still give them the results they need.
"Whenever you're ready," he says, nodding at Link.
no subject
Date: 2024-12-28 09:13 am (UTC)He raises the bow. Pulls the arrow back. Eyes his target...and fires.
The bomb flower is struck - and it immediately explodes. But will that also be enough to set off the trigger in the barrel?
no subject
Date: 2024-12-28 05:35 pm (UTC)Donnie has no doubts that the explosion will destroy the barrel, he just needs to see how far it makes the pieces fly, so when Link readily fires, he ducks his head down behind the wall as it explodes.
no subject
Date: 2024-12-30 01:27 am (UTC)Instead, the bomb flower just explodes as normal, and pieces of barrel fly everywhere. Link looks around, blinking. Where was the rest of it?
"...Didn't work?" he says.
no subject
Date: 2024-12-30 05:55 am (UTC)"Looks like it did to me," he says, not quite getting it as he hops to his feet and heads over towards the explosion site. He looks around the ground for the resulting debris to see how far anything's flown, drawing chalk circles around them.
"Hmm...That's a pretty mid-ranged damage radius, but I don't think it's that accurate," he muses. "I'm going to try something else."
He starts carefully cleaning up the debris field, then sets up a circle of hollow clay cylinders, one just around the pre-drawn circle, and another ring within the range of the farthest thrown debris that had been marked. Then he places another bomb flower into position, without any barrel.
"This should give us a better idea of the explosive force and how far it expands once set off," he explains, giving Link a nod.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-01 09:46 am (UTC)Okay, so maybe Link's a little disappointed that Donnie hasn't actually been secretly whipping up bigger, even better bomb flower explosions. Just a bit.
But once he sees the circles being drawn, he understands. Link's never had much of a mind for Science himself - but he's been pressed into assisting Purah with more than a few of her experiments before. Usually ones that involve him being flung up to a very great height. Or being shot at by lasers.
So he adjusts his expectations, and gets into position once Donnie's ready. Draws his bow, and aims.
And - fires.
BOOM!
no subject
Date: 2025-01-01 07:45 pm (UTC)"Haha! Not bad, not bad," Donnie says, quickly jotting down some numbers." He looks to Link. "Now, do you know off-hand if they'll explode when in range of another explosion? ...or we could just test that out right now."
no subject
Date: 2025-01-03 08:54 am (UTC)He tilts his head to one side a little, thinking about the questions Donnie is asking. "...You want to link the explosions," he says.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-03 05:30 pm (UTC)"Exactly!"
no subject
Date: 2025-01-04 05:18 am (UTC)Donnie was not the only one keen for any excuse to make things explode. Really, just give Link any excuse, any excuse at all...
no subject
Date: 2025-01-04 06:03 am (UTC)Donnie pretends to really consider this.
"It couldn't hurt. We should make sure they're effective enough before employing them out on the field," he says, nodding. "I'll go set up."
no subject
Date: 2025-01-05 03:53 am (UTC)He's been around scientists. The testing is important, he knows.
So as Donnie sets up, Link starts pulling out bomb flowers out of his bag. If Donnie directs him to place them anywhere in particular, he'll do so.
Considering how many of the bomb flowers they're going through, it's a very good thing that Donnie's been growing more for him.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-05 06:11 am (UTC)Once they were set, the turtlekin hopped back over the wall and signaled Link to do the honors in setting things off.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-08 04:16 am (UTC)But Link sets them out, as instructed, before moving back. Draws his bow once more. And...fires!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! The moment one flower explodes, any within it's range are triggered as well. Within an instant, they've all gone off.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-08 04:38 am (UTC)Donnie grins as he watches from around the wall. He's pleased that everything's gone off accordingly.
"Oh, that was beautiful," he cackles.
no subject
Date: 2025-01-08 06:21 am (UTC)(How Link misses the Sheikah Slate, and it's unlimited amount of bombs...)
For now, though, Link grins along with Donnie. Both because of the explosions, and because it looks like the bomb flowers are going to be able to help.
"They're good?" he says. "For the mission?"

Date: 2025-01-10 03:45 am (UTC)And then - because clearly they deserve a little break, after all their hard work blowing stuff up - he pulls out an entire Hylian Tomato Pizza out of his korok-enchanted pack. It is, mysteriously, somehow still hot.
"Pizza?" he says, offering some out to Donnie.
