EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR PREPARATION

With winter’s chill already setting in, Corsair laboratories are hard at work pumping out explosives for the operation to come. After extensive training, the crews of the Corsair airship brigade bring the infiltrators quietly to the Isles Above, all cabin lights doused to move stealthily to the drop point. There, Corsair specialists will disembark and plant explosives, as well as, perhaps, make contact with local workers and evacuate them if time permits. With all crews operating with quiet efficiency, the time is almost nigh to strike at the heart of the Empire itself.

Any mission marked Critical must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete. Missing Critical missions will have major negative impacts on the Execution mission in the following month. Supplemental missions can be completed or not, completing them will go toward achieving optimal results during the Execution mission next month. As with Critical missions, Supplemental missions must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete.

SUPPLIER MISSIONS

Create Explosives: Characters will need to create explosives and munitions for deployment.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: In order to get explosives that will make enough of a dent in the Imperial forces, Corsairs will need to develop them from the live rounds dropped above the vault. Logs can involve recovering salvage as well as construction of explosives.

Develop Precision Explosives: Characters will need to develop precision explosives to avoid undue damage to the civilians of Bluvink during the attack.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require some research and development from suppliers to find explosives that will detonate at very specific levels in order to not cause the volatile materials within the Bluvink factory to ignite and cause wide-scale damage to the town.

Develop Communications Hijack: Characters will need to develop a tool that can hijack communications within the Empire.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require recovering some Imperial communication technology from salvage or from the Vault and finding a way to dominate Imperial airwaves so they can’t shut down the Corsair propaganda.

INFILTRATOR MISSIONS

Set Explosives in Bluvink: Characters will need to sneak into the Bluvink factory and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The factory has regular guard rotations that can be figured out with proper observation, they will need to be avoided. The facility will also need to be properly cased so that the explosives can be set in places they will not be detected.

Set Explosives in the Vindess Mines: Characters will need to sneak into the Vindess Mines and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The mines have regular guard rotations and are constantly manned by serfs and servants. All will need to be avoided in order to set the explosives, and those manning the mines must be avoided at all costs.

NEGOTIATOR MISSIONS

Miner Negotiation: Characters will need to convince the miners to evacuate and to join with the Corsairs, as well as not tip off the Imperials.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: Many miners are distrustful of the Corsairs due to Imperial Propoganda, and several are Imperial loyalists even under the current circumstances. Several miners may need to be subdued in order to safely evacuate the area without their captors being alerted.

VILLAINS

Villain plots will be planned this month and will happen in the following month. Potential villains may post here to start workshopping potential plots that they may take part in next month.

He chuckled softly. "Yes, perhaps it's why Tochiro always had me handle this part of the process," Harlock's breath went shallow, there is a stillness in his frame as he unscrews the cap of the shell, before gently turning it.

"He preferred making these from scratch, but store-bought is fine for our purpose,"

"It is... Not a matter of advice or learning, I think." She has accepted that when it comes to empathy and sharing camaraderie, she makes a good ice cube, that she does not feel anything. "Though I thank you, for your thought."

The number itself is hardly important, though the explosive energy required to down one of these columns is. "Does this agree with your minimum yield?"

Harlock returned to the vault from another round of raiding the test field for munitions, placing them into armored storage, ready to be picked up and reused.

Once he hears - and smells the signs of test bombing, he decided to go observe what kind of bombs are being made, putting on his own earmuffs, he doesn't need to be deaf as well as half-blind. The corner of his mouth tugged up at seeing Donnie as he simply observed the detonations, making his own mental calculations.

During a respite, when the turtlekin is facing his direction, he gives a nod and a thumbs up.

Hopefully he hasn't been grinning too manically as the explosions went off. There's something exhilarating about it all, and something satisfying in seeing things go off as you've anticipated.

Donnie shoves up his goggles, scrawling down a few more notes before he catches the movement, and he lifts his head, beaming almost cheerfully as he gives him a return thumbs-up and a wave. He'll have to go prep things for the next explosion so things are clear for the moment.

"Hey Captain!" he greets.

Ilphyl is willing to help with either or both. They don't have personal experience with mining beyond their time pre-rescue, but they grew up in a slave-holding culture, so have some grasp of the logic that pits commoners versus the enslaved to keep the system working.

Mining is also dirty enough work that disguising their coloration means they can do more public facing roles.

It's not a proper explosion if there isn't a maniacal grin from someone.

"I take it the testing is going well," The pirate pushes himself off the wall, gesturing briefly to the acrid wisps of smoke.

"I'd say so!" Donnie replies. "I've already narrowed down the most ideal explosive compositions to be used, especially for the Bluvink operation. It'll probably be best to have some variety in case we run into any complications when setting things up, but I have a good feeling about these compounds."

"Well that's no fun." Renne jokingly pouts a bit, but still listens attentively and watches with sharp eyes, nodding once after the explanation is finished.

"Understood. Shall we?"

"Then that's where we start. Confusing, bypassing, disabling or outright fooling them are the four paths I know."

She gave a big smile. "Let us see what mischief we can spring on them, preferably without them sniffing the effort out... I can only look on for now, until I have a clearer idea of how their system works from the software end. Or how these systems work in general - hence the massive amount of reading."

"No plan survives contact with the enemy," He agreed with his reasoning on variety. "So, tell me a little bit about what you got cooking." The base elements of detonations are similar, but it's the application that can vary wildly.

Senshi would appreciate the help in either role, but help with negotiation would be preferred as it’s harder to come by.

Donnie nods. "Also, we don't know the exact placement of things and especially if we're talking about materials being used, how much more or less there may be at any given time since production is still active."

He flips through his notes. "I have one that's more of a slow burn. Builds up heat, will do some good damage once it goes off but it's meant to be placed where it can affect the machinery. Less of an explosion and more of an eruption of heat. Got a few that'll set off a lot quicker, better to start chain reactions with, so they're smaller and won't be as effective on their own. Placement is definitely key there."

"Are you able to fabricate any parts?" Renne is already typing away at the terminal. "We'll need equipment to remotely hijack the system. There are spare parts in warehouse 003."

Despite the deafening noise, the bursts of bright light, the explosions...Link shows no fear or worry as he saunters into the test area. If anything, there's a bit of a glint in his eye as he witnesses Donnie blowing things up.

Link may be just a little use used to explosions.

Walking towards Donnie, Link comes in from behind before circling around to move into Donnie's field of vision - at which point he leans in, and gives a little wave. Hi!

Ilphyl is at least comfortable underground, and looks young enough that they can pass as a newbie, sticking close to Senshi. Thankfully, while they have the elven slender build, it hides that they actually are quite strong. And it turns out the dust and dirt of a mine means that Ilphyl isn't particularly recognizable, if drow even stand out from other elves here.

They also are noting the canaries. Ilphyl isn't a social expert, but having a reputation for being young and being the soft-hearted sort who looks after the animals means an excess of compassion for those beneath them won't blow their cover. And because if they have to organize the canaries to spook the miners out of here, that is their current backup plan.

They try to join in with work songs, but are largely faking knowing the words, and spend their first few days observing, listening for anything that could be of use to create solidarity with the slaves. Their last resort is unmasking themselves as an escapee from a few months ago and hope that they establish enough of a bond in a short time to get the miners to think. It's riskier than the plan with the canaries.

"I swear, the rocks get heavier every day," Ilphyl offers up as a conversation starter.

Oki gave her a toothy, absolutely starburst-bright smile, showing off conical and needle-shaped teeth alike. "I can. It's going to need to be a mixture of bespoke and not, but I'll make it work." She took an inventory of the components she would need or be likely to need, and departed posthaste.

Renne nods absently as she works at her code.

"If you need any specific parts made check in with engineering, they can usually provide make to order parts."

Donnie greets him readily, his own eyes bright with excitement. Someone's enjoying this task too much maybe.

"Nice timing, actually. I was about to compare damage radius for your explosive flowers. Since we can't directly trigger it without being somewhere within range to do so, I'm thinking it'll be better put to use if set off from a chain reaction, but I need to see how much damage it can do on its own, first."

Oki nodded and departed, determined to get the proper tools, and to construct the instrument they were going to need - designed to fool the countermeasures of the Empire, and to use its signal locally to a specific end.

The finer tools were few, and there were some - particularly very finely tuned monitors, and the wiring for the transmitter itself, these would take very fine work.

She found herself looking then, for someone in engineering...

"Is Tochiro one of your friends or a family member back home?" Atom asks him as he lights his eyes again, aiming them down at the shell so they serve as both a scanner and a source of light for the careful operation.

He points to the first layer of molded metal inside. "This appears to be a frame piece that helps to keep the munitions inside in place. Lift it slowly."

The group starts to split, with several people already sure of which locations they're taking care of. Atom turns to Renne and points to a few of marks on the map. "Can you join me placing the charges at some of the higher up locations? I can fly, but the ones at the far end here are close to some of the storage areas that I need to avoid while using flying."

"The factory is owned by a noble, and they've hired their own guards. I wasn't told whether the guards are any more or less adept than most imperial soldiers."

Movement catches Atom's eyes and he zooms his view in to confirm who he's seeing. "The guards are looping back around again." He points to where they're emerging from out of the shadows with their lanterns.

Atom finds himself reminded of other robots who expressed their doubts about their abilities to comprehend abstract concepts. They just about always underestimated themselves. But he's not sure how a human from another world would take a comparison to a robot, even if he meant well by it, so he keeps the thought to himself.

He glances over her papers at the numbers she had come up with and he nods at her. "I found the same answer. I was thinking next we note down the distance between the different columns and take the elevation options of the charges and the neighboring explosions into consideration. I have the blueprints saved to my memory, so I can mark the distances on a copy of the blueprints to make it faster if you like."
