EVENT #02: A MAN OF WORTH PLANNING PHASE

The time has come to begin preparing to engage and capture the VIP. The knowledge he holds will be imperative to further Corsair operations, and they absolutely cannot let this opportunity slip by.

By a narrow vote, the Corsairs have elected to destroy the escort fleet, deeming a capture operation on the ships far too risky while also attempting to secure a VIP. As such, the Corsairs have two primary duties - discern information on the movement of the troops and prepare heavy munitions to sink the airships.

Since the game’s population is still in flux due to our new status, we are scaling back the people requirements and opening all event logs to everyone. Now, in order for a given log to be complete, we only require that players start logging it out. We’ll continue to assess and refine our mission style as the game continues and we see what works and what doesn’t, please bear with us as we get this all figured out.

CORE MISSIONS

Gather Information: Negotiators will need to connect with the Imperials in Elysium and wring as many details about the upcoming visit as they can. The more the Corsairs know about the timetable, expected escort, and armaments, the higher the chance of success.
Conflicts: A delicate touch will be needed to avoid arousing suspicions. Corsairs will need to be able to justify why it is important for them to have the knowledge, and Imperials tend not to like to give information to staff if they acknowledge they exist at all.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read GATHER INFORMATION.

Gather Munitions:Suppliers will need to start preparing and developing heavy munitions to attack the escort fleet. It is imperative that every airship in the escort sinks beneath the waves, and the crew along with it, and the Corsairs will require a lot of firepower to see it done.
Conflicts: Working with explosives is risky business, and unskilled hands are liable to get blown off. Suppliers will need to be careful with both their preparation and their handling, even moreso if they go out to gather particularly volatile materials from particularly volatile wildlife.
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read GATHER MUNITIONS.

SIDE MISSIONS

With Hesaeth captured, the Corsairs will now need to hold it. Players may propose Player Plots to see to its defenses, in the likely event that the Empire attempts to reclaim it in the near future. The below prompts are potential things that may be done, but players are encouraged to think up their own plans and run their own logs if they think of anything. These Plots may be submitted here.
Trap the Mines: Line the mines with explosives so they can be collapsed in the event of an attack.
Undersea Route: Carve an undersea route into the mines so people can be evacuated via submersible.
Rallying Point: Set up a Rallying Point in the Hesaeth wilderness where evacuees can rendezvous for escape in the event of attack.
Defense Systems: Set up cannons to fight back against Imperial Invaders.

Aerich: GATHER INFORMATION

Aerich might be nobility where he comes from, but he is pretty good at being Someone Important's Clerk, especially as it is technically true (just... he won't mention he does this for the Vault). It might not get past offices with good security.

Rezo's shown to have some ability to magically spy on people in canon, and I was thinking that might be something he could utilize for gathering information even if he doesn't directly talk to any Imperials. Would it be alright if I had him do that?

Gather Munitions - Nephenee

Late one evening, long after most people have gone to sleep, Link and Nephenee are awake. They've spent the day staking out a Empire-owned Merchant House in Seisgrun, and now it's time to break in.

Because if the information the Corsairs gave them is right, this Merchant House doesn't just house firearms and ammunition. It's where Link's Korok-enchanted pack ended up after he was captured by the Empire. And maybe they'll have some other stolen Outlander items as well, if they're lucky.

Link hopes they're lucky. He wants his pack back. Trying to fit everything he's collected into his tiny dorm has proven...difficult.

Now, he and Nephenee are creeping towards the back wall of the House. Link glances back at Nephenee. Is she ready?

I've been eying this option. Would anyone else be interested in helping out with it? Donnie can do some underwater scouting to help figure out where it'd be safe to punch a hole through for an emergency egress, and he could probably also help out some in excavation.

I'm thinking of having Harlock Trap the mines or help with the Defense systems

Snufkin would be most useful in setting up a Rallying Point in the wilderness

The day they've spent staking out this place has been one that has tried even Nephenee's considerable patience. She's not used to spending this much time in one spot...especially when she's not doing anything with her hands. While she's not complained, poor Link has gotten to deal with the farm girl being fidgety, at the very least: changing positions, playing with her hood or cloak (what? Heather had one, and she was a thief, so Nephenee took a cue from her for clothing! Also it covers her head, so considering she's never without a hat or something obscuring part of her face, it's not really that strange for her...), shifting her halberd, at one point pulling needlework out of seemingly nowhere...

At least her clothes aren't too warm; that would've made it so much worse with how much of a furnace the Sentinel is. It's gotta be evident even to Link with the heat radiating off her.

She's not sure what they'll find here, but there's a very tiny part of her that is praying to whatever beneficent deity might be out there that this is going to be worth all this waiting. That tiny part is shuffled off whenever it pops up. No, no, their intelligence is usually pretty sound, it seems, so it'll be worth the wait to get in here.

Anything to help the Corsairs, anything to keep them and their families safe.

As they get close to time, and Link looks to her, she's positively bristling with energy. "Yup," she whispers in answer to his wordless question, replacing the crochet she was fiddling with. "How we wanna get in there?" She hasn't seen any obvious things they can take advantage of, like open windows, but she's kind of new to this sort of thing, so she's probably missed something. Being honest, if they didn't need supplies and such, she'd be far more reticent about this whole "breakin'-an'-enterin'" thing...

I’m thinking that Senshi’s experience as a miner would give him demolitions expertise he could use to gather munitions.. Would anyone else like to assist him in making useful explosives?

Link, meanwhile, had seemed almost unnaturally patient during their stakeout. Somehow, he's able to stay still and silent for long stretches of time, hardly fidgeting at all.

But then, Link had been a knight, and a royal guard. Zelda's royal guard. He'd had plenty of practice had staying still and watchful. And even if Nephenee had been twitchier than a Restless Cricket, they'd still managed to get the job done. By now, they had a pretty good idea of the guard's movemens, and they had a decent window where they could work unobserved.

And in response to her question, he points - up at a window that just so happens to be on the top floor, several stories up. Then Link stands up, saunters over to the side of the building like he belongs there...and starts climbing.

Nephenee had been one, too, for Queen Elincia, but, frankly, it hadn't been for very long, either in overall employment or the shift duration. She had a family to still care for, after all...

Yune, she missed her Ma and siblings. Were they doing alright? Did they have enough to eat? Were they taken care of? That might've been the cause of some of her earlier restlessness...

Back in the present, she looks up at the window and calculates. Alright, mite too big for her to hop up to in one bound...And then Link goes on over and starts climbing like a tiny blonde spider. Well, she's seen him do some things, but she is impressed by the skill that takes. Not her forte. Oh, sure, she can climb trees, but she's never learned to scale a building or something like that.

But that's alright, she's got her own strengths. There's a decent tree near the building and others around it, and within a few moments she's worked her own path out. Because while she does have great arm strength...Poing! Up into the boughs she jumps with her considerable leg power, and it won't take her long at all to reach that window, even if her path is a bit more windy.

She's not trying to show off, it's just far more efficient for her and lessens her chances of being seen!

(Alright, fine, there's some wanting to push herself to be better and he's the first person in awhile that she knows of who can actually challenge her. But she won't admit it, she ain't that big for her britches [and it'd require more self-esteem, too]!)

Link had been planning to let down a rope for her; he knows not everyone can climb like he can. But then just as he's about to reach the window she ends up leaping right past him.

For her feat of athleticism, she gets a blink of surprise, and a soft noise of appreciation - it is impressive - and then Link gets right back to the job.

Hanging by the windowsill, Link briefly looks into the window. Then, satisfied that the coast is clear, he reaches up and just pulls the window open.

Apparently, no one was expecting anyone to break into the building this high up.

Getting explosives is the easy part. Making of them bombs more likely to crack the airship's hull than blow up the poor sod setting them, that's the tricky part.

The alchemical processes of making grenades and shaped charges from gunpowder and fire ether crystal is similar to cooking, an irony not lost on Senshi as he adds powder to a carefully shaped ceramic container, one pinch at a time.

"Have we got enough nitrate for the fuses?" he calls over his shoulder. "Raid the pink salt from the butchers for it if you have to!"

Although she far prefers the informal "Musse", when the occasion demanded it she could always become Mildine Juzalith de Cayenne, a proper noblewoman living in a remote estate while her uncle ran her family territory. And so it was today that she hosted a tea party, bringing in noble ladies in the area as well as some special guests of her own to chat, drink tea, gossip, and, hopefully, acquire more information on the incoming arrival.

The tea was set, the cakes immaculate, and as for her guests, well... have fun. One would need to have passed her rigorous screening to stand with her now in the presence of nobility, and there was no room for error.

Explosives at their core are just an expulsion of energy, a chemical reaction that helps to power something. In this case, it's just a very specific means of destruction. Donnie understands these things, he's learned that precision is just as key as when dealing with machinery.

"How much will we need?" the young turtlekin asks, jotting things down in a small notebook, mostly to help lock words down that he's still trying to learn.

From: [personal profile] relentless_sentinel
For better or worse, Sentinels are kind of used to having to do stuff themselves, and Nephenee more than usual. Nothing against you, Link; she appreciates it!

Crouched above on the...well, heck if she knows what it's called here (maybe a dormer?), she silently waits as her comrade checks inside, peering around to make sure they're still safe. So far, so good. Her mind goes to much the same place as his on the subject of people not thinking to secure egress points so far above the road. Admittedly, there's probably not many who can get up here...at least locally. Since the Empire started bringing in Outlanders, though, you'd think they'd take a bit more care...but she might be giving some of these people a bit too much credit. She'll take being underestimated, thanks.

"Think my friend Heather'd be disappointed in not havin' a challenge..." She mutters softly. Probably for the best the Whisper isn't here; she's fantastic at this sort of thing, but she also lacks a lot of scruples regarding it. The lack is probably tacked onto Nephenee, as she tries hard to not to think about what they're doing.

“Enough to make a… sort of brine to soak these ropes in,” Senshi replies, indicating the ropes he’s converting to fuses. “We mustn’t skimp. I’m not subjecting our sappers to short fuses.”

After a moment, he tips his helm, grunting approval. “Don’t know many that would use this for language lessons,” he says. “I’ll make some notes for you.”
