AN ADDRESS FROM THE EMPEROR
[While the empire's deserter, Odilo Durst, now safe in Corsair territory, recites as many imperial secrets he can recall, the new year brings an increase of aerial attacks on the Isles Below on both Corsair and civilian locations. Like last year, word of a radio address from the Emperor is announced, and Corsairs gather around radios to listen.
In the capitol, the Emperor climbs the stairs to the platform where he addresses a crowd of perfectly lined up soldiers.]
Citizens of the Empire, hear me and attend. This is Emperor Cladius Varschein II, appointed by the Divine, lord of all Esthere above and below. Citizens, the villainous Crimson Corsairs have tested our patience long enough. One of our own, former financial advisor, Odilo Durst is a traitor to our empire who has traded information, put your peace and financial security at risk, to curry favor with the enemy.
[Murmuring spreads through the crowd of soldiers at this revelation, but a simple raise of the Emperor's hand silences them.]
I call on all who are listening to search for Odilo Durst and his family. Whoever brings him to me will be rewarded with the highest praise and live in comfort and luxury for the rest of their days. Yes, even those individuals living below us, or those who may have aided the Crimson Corsairs. I am not an unreasonable ruler; return to your citizenship under the flag of the divine empire, cast aside the lies the Crimson Corsairs have poisoned your mind with, and you will be forgiven and welcomed back.
Citizens, the time has come to fell the Crimson Corsairs once and for all. We will no longer hold back in our deployments. New weapons will be dispersed among our forces. The strongest of our soldiers will join the battle, and I will soon join them. Divine judgment will be delivered!
[The crowd cheers. To the soldiers present, their greatest heroes are about to lead them on the battlefield.
Among the Corsairs, there are mixed reactions.]

Date: 2026-01-11 08:54 pm (UTC)The Emperor might have personal lands, but they're not as wide-spread as all that, right? Mostly it's other nobles who own the land in fealty to him. So who's he going to strip lands from?

[ Unfortunately for everyone, the Emperor is both a leader and a great warrior. ]
