Aira glances briefly at the food; she was pretty hungry a minute ago, but the subject matter has temporarily robbed her appetite. She ends up holding Atom's eye and listening carefully.

"That makes sense—that you aren't supposed to hurt people, I mean. But it's awful that you were ever targeted in the first place."

She gives him a soft, apologetic look.

"I signed up to fight without really knowing how hard it would be. You just... have to be ready to feel some things, guess. But I'm sure it's different for everyone. I didn't have any real experience fighting other humans going in, same as you."
