Hades 💀 Plot 1 - Execution Phase

What: Evacuating a village and prepping for a landslide. Then the landslide.
Where: A small hidden village in the forest at the foot of a mountain
When: Backdated to the 4th of March


Surveying the Area

Those who have influence over the elements, or know how to calculate a way to divert some of the impending landslide will want to explore the village layout and the area around it. The village is a humble circle of stone and wood buildings surrounded on all sides by old, towering trees, with a few trees in between some buildings. The ground of the village has been leveled, but upon reaching the edge of the village on the mountain side, the ground makes a steep incline. An old stone wall a little taller than the nearest hut was assembled on this side of the village to divert falling rock or water, but there's no saying something only so tall and worn with age will stand up to the kind of disaster Matt has been warning of.

Evacuating the Residents

Matt has visited this village before during his travels and has good relationship with the elders. It will take some pleading, but the elders will eventually agree to evacuate on the off chance the disaster really comes. Most of the villagers follow their leaders' words, and start packing some supplies and cherished belongings. While it's a small village, some people unintentionally slow the process. Some have pets or livestock to wrangle, others have mobility issues, and there are those who just can't decide what to bring and are having trouble thinking clearly due to panic.

Convincing the Stubborn

A few intentional stragglers insist on staying in their homes. Their neighbors plead with them to come, but they insist that the village wall will hold. One or two might even believe the Imperial propaganda that that Corsairs are up to no good. Do the Corsairs trust their plans to protect the village will protect the stubborn, or do they try to convince them? Or do they take different measures to get them out?

The Landslide

Matt warns all the Corsairs of the time arriving. Within the next ten minutes, there's an unmistakable crash of rocks up the mountain, and the avalanche begins. Any last evacuations must be completed and those using magic or tools to protect the village must hurry to wherever they deem most fitting for their part. Sure enough, a massive wave of rock and dirt tosses up dust as a frightening chunk of the mountain gives way above.

Note: Due to the scale of the challenge, this is being treated like an event, and players may tag each other and post top levels instead of just interacting with Matt's top levels.

Post Landslide

Atom had been airborne for most of the landslide and got a good view of Rezo's impressive effort to keep rocks from coming crashing through roofs from overhead. Atom had carried some last minute evacuees and materials between the ground and the airships and pushed away rock and falling branches where he could. As the landslide settles, he scans the village and settling earth from overhead, and takes a breath of relief seeing how much damage they had successfully prevented. It looked like most of the villagers would be able to return to their homes later.

He hears coughing below, and realizes the dust is getting the best of some on the ground. Concerned, Atom rushes back up to the airships to ask for a something to cover one's mouth and nose, and he comes flying down to Rezo with an offered up scarf from one of the villagers.

"Mr. Rezo, please, wrap this around your head," he says, holding the scarf out to him.

"Well, it's the easiest way to get an overview. But if you have a map, I can describe to you what we see from the air. It helps with the big picture."

Ilphyl nodded, and started chanting and gesturing, focusing their energy into the ground -- trying to get the trees, but also the other plants.

She mutters a curse. Her first instinct is to leave her-- the goats will survive-- but... no. Goats remember. "How far?"

She walks up to the dam, slowly, without waiting for the answer. "You're all right, you're all right..."

Tau watches a moment before placing his hand on one of the nearby trees to get a better sense of what Ilphyl's doing and if it's having any effect. He nods to himself, adding a bit of his own power to help direct the trees, to absorb what they can of what's being offered.

"Don't be greedy," he mutters, but he smirks a little, giving the tree a pat before he steps back.

It is, but not before getting a couple more cheap shots at Kanna as she works to stop and carom rocks off each other. She's probably going to need some time, in the coming weeks, to recover, but who knows? She can probably walk it off, right?

Oh. Oh that's a head-size rock right to the abdomen.

Ow.

"Yeah. I think we might be able to shore it up by digging, and that'll stop a lot, but that also takes time, and..." She hums. "Where's the dirt gonna come from?"

She draws what she's thinking of again-- basically piling up dirt against the wall until it's as tall as the wall, which certainly would keep a lot of the rocks back... If they had time. "It really is best to get everyone going."

Link can't move - not until the landslide's finally stopped, not until he's set the boulder-barrier back down, not until the villages are safely huddled behind it.

But the moment he can, he's racing over to Kanna, eyes darting over her to check for any wounds. Is she okay? Is she hurt? Does she need an elixir?

Link looks down. Seems like there's plenty of dirt around, really. They're standing on a bunch of it.

But, digging it up and getting it where they want probably isn't so easy. Especially in a rush.

So he nods - yes. He agrees; getting everyone going is the best option.

For a second, she doesn't move at all, and then, all at once, snaps back up. "-- Did I get it? It's still going, I--"

Oh. Oh she was knocked out at the end there. Don't argue with a mountain, kids. "Huh? Link? How did you get-- I'm fine, are the villagers okay?"

Link nods. Yes, she got it. Yes, the villagers are fine. He takes a moment to inspect her closely, before reaching out one hand to help pull her to her feet.

One she's standing, she'll be able to see them - gathered around behind the no longer floating boulder barrier, wide eyed-and shaken. But all of them alive and unharmed.

The only one who was hurt, it seems, was Kanna.

Oh she's going to have bruises on her palms, and there's almost certainly damage to her abdomen, and she might have cracked a rib, but she's... Mostly fine? Mostly. She can walk. "Gonna need to work on that, but... Good."

She feels the rib. No, it's fine. Okay. Good. She is tapped out on Ether and has definitely seen better days, but she's. Standing. Mostly. "... Sorry. Got a little heated back there."

Ilphyl finished their spell. "It would be better if we had more time, but it is what it is." But they were now worried about the trees, who couldn't exactly evacuate. The ones in the brunt of the avalanche would probably be lost, but maybe their actions would save some.

The other nods quietly. "You've done what you can, here," he says to Ilphyl. "We're grateful for that much."

Tau looks out at the woods again, up towards the slopes where the mountain rises just beyond.

"There's other things to take care of. I've still got some things to do here, so don't let me keep you."

Link cocks his head to one side. Why is she apologising? She did good.

"You helped save them."

And probably would continue to help save them - because while the landslide is over, this area still isn't exactly safe. They're still going to need to escort the villagers the rest of the way to safety.

But Link can let Kanna take a moment, if he needs it.

"Not them. You." She starts walking, albeit slowly at first, but then picks up to something a little more normal, the actor's facade coming on as she approaches the villagers and waves.

Rezo has been able to hear Atom flying around up above, though the sound was more of a background concern to him. He's genuinely surprised when he hears Atom flying towards him, and nearly casts another shielding spell- the sound of rockets headed in his direction is slightly alarming. Fortunately, Atom's control is exemplary.

Rezo holds out his hand when Atom speaks, but pauses as he realizes Atom's intention.

"Thank you, but I'm alright." Rezo lifts his head, as if that will make the green sash he already has wrapped around his face more apparent. "But there may be others dealing with the dust. Who else do you see about?"

A faint frown crosses Link's face. Him? She helped save...him?

He's not sure he understands. It's not a statement that makes sense to Link, either way; he was even if a few stray rocks had gotten past both Kanna and the boulder-barrier, he'd have been fine.

But he does not voice his confusion, instead silently plodding along behind Kanna to the villagers - who start profusely giving both of them their own thanks.

"No, I mean-- looking back, yelling at you like that was uncalled for--"

And then, there were the villagers to consider. Kanna's glad to have them around, even injured, and the children especially give that energy back, though they soon notice how much she's hiding of her injuries.

Oh. Right - she called him 'forest boy', didn't she?

Link shrugs. It had been vaguely annoying, yes. But wouldn't be the first time someone decided to yell at him. He'd gotten much worse when he was younger, training to be a knight.

But it's fine now. Everyone is safe, and that's what matters.

Though now, they still need to get everyone somewhere safe. Link eyes the area around them, until he finds the safest looking path.

"This way," he tells everyone, before leading the way.

Evacuating

Well Rezo doesn't exactly see Ilphyl having a one-sided conversation with a cow, but he does overhear it.

He's immediately a little concerned about Ilphyl being involved in this, even though he knows Ilphyl isn't exactly injured. They're still Rezo's sort-of patient, however, and healer-y habits die hard.

So he'll be detouring Ilphyl's way just to check in.

"Ilphyl? Is everything alright here?"

Ilphyl nodded. "Good luck. Call if something happens."

Because there is an eminent landslide; 'something' might be a warning that things are starting to happen.

Re: Evacuating

"Just trying to reassure the cows so they'll get on the airship, even though it's a new experience for them." Ilphyl paused, considering what they just said. "I have magic to be understood and to understand them better. "

New magic, different from his own? That certainly piques Rezo's interest!

"How does that work?"

He takes a cautious step over towards the cows. A very cautious one, because he's not really used to dealing with livestock.

Ilphyl extends a hand to touch the nearest cow, and says something. It still sounds like Ilphyl is speaking normally, albeit not in the local language, but the cow goes back to chewing on its cud.

They offer an apologetic smile to Rezo. "Cows aren't as easily spooked by horses, but these ones are nervous because they've noticed the activity. Right now, though, the cows can understand me, and I can 'hear' their reactions as words in my head. They're still cows, though, so I can't ask them anything complicated, and they'll be better-behaved for the people they know."
