EVENT #06: ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE MISSION LOG

With wind at their backs, the Corsairs fully expect the Imperial resistance. Knowing that they’ve made even the Emperor himself take notice has been heartening, they are well-prepared to go to war. And war finds them soon, with Imperial Strike Forces dispatched to scatter their resistance. With Flotsam under heavy attack, the great fleet has split, hiding in coves around the Eternal Ocean.

As the Corsairs fend off the Imperial Attack, they also look forward to the future. Keeping up their information warfare against the Empire is, of course, vital, as is finding new space to settle refugees and new recruits for the cause. February may prove to be a deadly month for the Corsairs, but if they play their hand well it can be a month of great strides.

These missions are occurring over the course of the month, there are no limitations on the characters who can take part, the size of the logs, or how many logs a character participates in.

MISSIONS

Imperial Warfare: Flights of airships and armors have been dispatched to sink as many Corsair ships as possible. The Corsairs have already split their fleet, but are hoping to catch these roving attack squadrons and quickly overwhelm them, protecting their fleet and, if possible, capturing airships and armors for their own forces.
Conflict: Strike forces will typically consist of two airships holding 4 armors each. These ships can be boarded and disabled, or fought directly depending on the preference of the combatant.
Role: Combatant
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read IMPERIAL WARFARE
Extra: You may specify the type of combat as well, such as BOARDING for more on-foot or ARMOR or SHIP for battles in mechs or from the decks of ships.

Investigate Targets: The Larendt labor camps have a lot of low-class and servant labor. With their presence in the Eternal Ocean and their involvement in some of the more menial but sometimes necessary manufacturing, gaining a foothold in these camps could be a huge boon for the Corsairs.
Conflict: These camps are heavily guarded, and while the inhabitants are extremely oppressed, inspiring them to revolt en masse will be a tough sell. Infiltrators will need to sneak in with either stealth or guile and determine who in the camps can be trusted and start into a major subversion effort to bring them to the Corsair side.
Role: Infiltrator, Supplier or Negotiator optional
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read INVESTIGATE TARGETS
Extra: You may specify the approach for your infiltration, such as STEALTH or DISGUISE

INFORMATION WARFARE: The Corsairs must keep up the pressure by creating a counternarrative to fight the Emperor’s messaging. This can be done a number of ways, such as hacking radio networks to broadcast messages, distributing subversive literature, or giving flash speeches.
Conflict: Guards are on high alert and will heavily crack down on people seen pushing banned messages or materials. Chances are high they will try to arrest or even kill on sight.
Role: Negotiator, Infiltrator or Combatant optional
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read INFORMATION WARFARE
Extra: You may specify the approach for your infiltration, such as HACKING or PAMPHLET DISTRIBUTION

Scout Settlements: The Corsairs need to establish a new settlement in order to house the growing number of refugees. An old ruined city has been identified as a potential site, an underground dwelling with some concealed farmland could easily be built in the area which has remained relatively untouched since the continent fell. Suppliers need to go in and set up a basecamp to begin construction.
Conflict: The ruins themselves will require a great dea of effort to get in order, with repairs to the infrastructure concealed within the ruins. The aqueducts still appear to be mostly capable of function and could be a great boon to the Corsairs if they can find a way to make them work. The ruins themselves have become quite dangerous in the intervening time, there are subterranean monsters such as bullettes and ankhegs that have taken up residence and can be quite dangerous when confronted. Additionally, it seems some Imperial deserters and n’er do wells have taken to using the place as a getaway after making it to Elysium, they will need to be dealt with, or perhaps even recruited if that can be managed.
Role: Supplier, Combatant or Negotiator optional
Requirements: To participate in this mission, your thread header should read SCOUT SETTLEMENT
Extra: You may specify the approach for your infiltration, such as REBUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE or CONVINCING DESERTERS

The guns go off on one, and Donnie watches the lines nearest him fly out until they cease to unfurl, remaining more or less taut to signal that they'd found their mark. They're given a quick tug as somewhere in the background he hears shouts of 'Hold steady!' and he moves to clip his carabiner to the closest line.

"Let's go!" he says, adjusting his grip and glad his hands have more or less healed up that they don't feel so stiff beneath the fingerless gloves he sports. Goggles down, he pushes off of the ship, letting that familiar rush of exhilaration hit him as he speeds down the line, wind and clouds whipping past him. He pulls his collapsed staff from its holster once he gets within visible range of the enemy deck, at soon enough he's able to let go of the carabiner grip.

Donnie drops into a roll once his feet hit the deck, tucking in until he's got his feet under him again. With a flick of his wrist he's put his staff at full-length, sweeping it around him in the same motion to put the surrounding soldiers off balance as he pushes the offense, his strikes with a staff clean and precise.

Harlock quickly hooked his carabiner jumping the moment his line went stiff. Several more corsairs joined in - zipping down the line, - some let out whoops, others screamed insults at the imperials muffled by wind and momentum, while many zipped down in silence.

Harlock swung onto the deck, kicking a dwarf in Imperial garb that had was attempting to cut the cable free. Taking moments to regain his balance after the unexpected break in his descend, the pirate drew his weapons - pistol in his left and rapier in his right. As Donnie cleared the space around him, Harlock engaged with some who thought him to be a softer target - and discovering that it wasn't the case.

"Don't get separated, press them but do not let yourself get surrounded!" Harlock called out as he slammed the butt of his sword against a man who thought he could sneak up on the man's right.

"Yes'sir!" Donnie's quick to snap off, ignoring the howl of pain from another soldier as his staff cracks across their fingers, their weapon falling to the floor. He swings it upwards as though rebounding off the strike to slam the end against their helmet, and when they stagger back, he drops down for a footsweep that knocks them bodily to the deck.

The lines from their ship slacken once the boarding party's all on deck, just as cannonfire from the ship they're currently on rumbles below their feet as the enemy attempts retaliatory fire on their airship.

"We can't get too caught up here," he says as he ducks the swing of a rapier, jabbing his staff at the man's midsection before snapping it upwards. "Need to get inside."

"Agree," He scans quickly for the best route inward, as a harekin from their side sent an Imperial over the side with a vicious kick, chiding the pair for slowing down. Harlock let back a slight sound of annoyance as his rapier starts to glow and crackle with electricity as the magic within it was activated.

Those who attempted to parry his strikes with metal weapons whelped, involuntarily dropping them from the resulting shock, which the pirate took advantage of to shove or sweep them off their feet - sending one colliding into their colleague.

"Keep them occupied!" He shouted to the harekin as he starts moving to get inside the ship.

Donnie'll show him slow! Making a bit of a face, he however takes his own advice as he shoulder-checks another soldier who's already on unsteady feet, sending them sprawling as he rushes past them and after Harlock.

He remembers when the captain had mentioned such a weapon as the one he uses now. Electricity would be a good extra edge to have... Well, he pushes that thought away for the moment. There will be time to tinker later- once they get through this. For now he focuses on making sure they aren't caught off guard by anyone.

Kanna had, unfortunately, missed the cycle that had allowed the others to board cleanly, and had gotten stuck in on the rigging.

Still, now she was clear of immediate opponents, spotted the harekin about to get surrounded, and decided to make her presence known, picking up an Imperial by the body and arm, and swinging them about into several others with the force of a cannonball. Several of them had ruined armor, if not broken bones. Getting up wasn't likely any time soon. "Don't you get bogged down, either-- come on!"

Weapons? What does she need weapons for? She can reinforce her bones and hands with the solidity of earth and steel-- and there's no better weapon than the enemy.

The harekin nods and aims to make rendezvous.

Kanna keeps the rearguard, stealing a baton and a pistol while she's at it. "... ha. still pick the schwert loadout..."

Harlock's instincts went on high alert as he suddenly pivots, firing up - a gullkin squawked as she stumbled out of the Imperial crow's nest, rifle following shortly behind. "Almost there - good chance if they are smart they would have barricaded the door." He cautioned.

Though he wondered how long such a barrier would hold against Kanna's sheer strength. As the three got closer to their target, a small group of Imperials - more heavily armored than the rest moved to intercept. The pirate lets out a low smirk, pointing his rapier - lightning crackling.

"Stand down or you will be taken out." He called out in a sharp, commanding tone that brooked no argument.

...i thought I tracked this thread

"Corsair scum!" one of the Imperials shousd, which is about all necessary for the rest of them to be triggered into the attack, brandishing weapons.

"Can't say he didn't warn you!" Donnie says from beside Harlock. He grins almost maliciously, neon magenta light already flaring beside him as it traces out several rifles by his side, firing off shots of the same sort of construction, but as a few hit it's clear they hold the same properties as any physical thing might.

Oh crap sorry

Kanna pulled the harekin back from getting caught in the return suppression fire, and more shouts came from behind them, answered by Kanna opening fire with the pistol and at least keeping the heads of the Imperials down. "Sharpshooting is not my fort!"

She hastily hands the pistol to the harekin, who, it turns out, is a slightly better shot, and runs full tilt at the door once Donnie stops firing, Earth-aspect Ether charged into her hands.

Normally, when she does this, she has an entire-ass Armor to amplify the Ether, soften the impact, and prevent the power going wild and doing something like ripping her arm off. "KANPAN-NEIPPATS!"

Here, she just has to make do with not, in fact, cracking the deck and superstructure as that shout might imply, and instead just throwing a HELL of a lot of Ether already designed to maneuver and control stone and metal into what is, essentially, a thin, detachable wall of metal.

This is likely to have predictable results, though don't expect her to do that again this boarding action.

The constructed rifles and the combination of pistol and electrified rapier kept the imperials off their feet, with some of the other corsairs joining in the fray, peeling off soldiers to prevent them from being able to dogpile on a single person. Harlock parried the halberd of an Imperial, while the wooden shaft kept him from getting shocked - it didn't save him from being clobbered by the butt of the pistol.

He was right - that door was no trouble for Kanna as it practically peeled away like an overripe banana with cracks snaking away from the door frame.

This was enough to cause the fight to pause, as if expecting another jolt to go across the deck - an aftershock if one will. Quickly, Harlock recovered from the surprise, using it to get inside, time to hijack the ship.

Kanna's a wildcard since Donnie has no idea what she's capable of. Having her launch headlong into things and then breaking the deck with- wait, what did she even do? Punch the thing?!

He can't tell, fighting to keep his balance as the wood shudders beneath his feet. It works in their favor either way as they're not the only ones surprised, and once he sees Harlock moving in, the turtlekin's quick to follow, catching up rather quickly, nimble shadow that he can be.

His staff snaps out to catch a guard or two behind the neck before they can fumble with their weapons, and he turns to make sure to keep any other soldiers in the immediate space from following.

While Harlock and Donnie advance into the bridge, Kanna pauses, and takes one deep breath to steady her Ether and recover her strength, shaking out her hand and arm for a moment before realizing that she's still in the middle of a firefight.

And so, when one of the Corsairs leads some of the soldiers back, it's into her waiting fists, arms, and feet. Simple enough, in detail, but even she can't hold off an entire ship forever.
