EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR PREPARATION

EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR PREPARATION

With winter’s chill already setting in, Corsair laboratories are hard at work pumping out explosives for the operation to come. After extensive training, the crews of the Corsair airship brigade bring the infiltrators quietly to the Isles Above, all cabin lights doused to move stealthily to the drop point. There, Corsair specialists will disembark and plant explosives, as well as, perhaps, make contact with local workers and evacuate them if time permits. With all crews operating with quiet efficiency, the time is almost nigh to strike at the heart of the Empire itself.

Any mission marked Critical must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete. Missing Critical missions will have major negative impacts on the Execution mission in the following month. Supplemental missions can be completed or not, completing them will go toward achieving optimal results during the Execution mission next month. As with Critical missions, Supplemental missions must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete.

SUPPLIER MISSIONS

Create Explosives: Characters will need to create explosives and munitions for deployment.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: In order to get explosives that will make enough of a dent in the Imperial forces, Corsairs will need to develop them from the live rounds dropped above the vault. Logs can involve recovering salvage as well as construction of explosives.

Develop Precision Explosives: Characters will need to develop precision explosives to avoid undue damage to the civilians of Bluvink during the attack.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require some research and development from suppliers to find explosives that will detonate at very specific levels in order to not cause the volatile materials within the Bluvink factory to ignite and cause wide-scale damage to the town.

Develop Communications Hijack: Characters will need to develop a tool that can hijack communications within the Empire.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require recovering some Imperial communication technology from salvage or from the Vault and finding a way to dominate Imperial airwaves so they can’t shut down the Corsair propaganda.

INFILTRATOR MISSIONS

Set Explosives in Bluvink: Characters will need to sneak into the Bluvink factory and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The factory has regular guard rotations that can be figured out with proper observation, they will need to be avoided. The facility will also need to be properly cased so that the explosives can be set in places they will not be detected.

Set Explosives in the Vindess Mines: Characters will need to sneak into the Vindess Mines and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The mines have regular guard rotations and are constantly manned by serfs and servants. All will need to be avoided in order to set the explosives, and those manning the mines must be avoided at all costs.

NEGOTIATOR MISSIONS

Miner Negotiation: Characters will need to convince the miners to evacuate and to join with the Corsairs, as well as not tip off the Imperials.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: Many miners are distrustful of the Corsairs due to Imperial Propoganda, and several are Imperial loyalists even under the current circumstances. Several miners may need to be subdued in order to safely evacuate the area without their captors being alerted.

VILLAINS

Villain plots will be planned this month and will happen in the following month. Potential villains may post here to start workshopping potential plots that they may take part in next month.

Renne smiles faintly. "For all the ills of the Empire, there are far worse horrors to be found lurking below the surface. But for today, we'll focus on the things we can easily see and fight. Come along."

Renne leads Oki to a small room with a few precious Ether stones connected to a large central unit with a number of screens surrounding it.

"I've been looking into ways to hijack the Imperial radio waves," Renne says in a matter-of-fact voice. "Chances are good they have much greater network capacity than we do, but our intel suggests that they don't allow such capabilities to be used by the general populace and rely primarily on radio transmissions for mass communications, bolstered and defended by their own version of the Ether-net. Are you familiar with such things?"

Oki followed, likely having to dip her head a bit to make it inside a smaller door and did look. "Interesting," she said. "Using crystalline receivers of radio waves is far from unknown back home, but the form of that I know of is not new." She gave a long, studying look. "Radio transmissions are all about signal strength and usually amplitude or frequency modulation. Interference with them can mean either drowning out the source locally - broadcasting on the same wavelength and overpowering the local broadcast strength - or setting something up that interferes with radio as a whole, a bit like smoke. You can even mask them completely out of a limited area, but that's quite resource-intensive. Hmmm... There's also the very short frequencies that can use the very atmosphere to increase its range. As for a more local broadcast, the way I've seen in most use for a hijack is a small, portable transmitter that's jacked right into the source, or the source itself changed so as to appear operational to anyone monitoring it internally, but in reality, it's broadcasting Rob Zombie to the entire outside world." She came back from her thoughts and resumed a small smile. "To answer your question, I am somewhat familiar."

"Glad to hear," Renne gives a slightly impish smile. "So the real question is, how shall we conquer the Imperial airwaves?"

"That is a goal. I would say we must begin by understanding it, and my inclination is to steal it, even using their own signal as a carrier wave for our message, perhaps."

Renne nods.

"I'm of the same mind, but that will also require us to disable the Empire's considerable countermeasures. I have, in fact, been working on just that."

She indicates the terminal, where Renne has been busy indeed, working on programs to attack the Empire's own Ether-net.

"Then that's where we start. Confusing, bypassing, disabling or outright fooling them are the four paths I know."

She gave a big smile. "Let us see what mischief we can spring on them, preferably without them sniffing the effort out... I can only look on for now, until I have a clearer idea of how their system works from the software end. Or how these systems work in general - hence the massive amount of reading."

"Are you able to fabricate any parts?" Renne is already typing away at the terminal. "We'll need equipment to remotely hijack the system. There are spare parts in warehouse 003."

Oki gave her a toothy, absolutely starburst-bright smile, showing off conical and needle-shaped teeth alike. "I can. It's going to need to be a mixture of bespoke and not, but I'll make it work." She took an inventory of the components she would need or be likely to need, and departed posthaste.

Renne nods absently as she works at her code.

"If you need any specific parts made check in with engineering, they can usually provide make to order parts."

Oki nodded and departed, determined to get the proper tools, and to construct the instrument they were going to need - designed to fool the countermeasures of the Empire, and to use its signal locally to a specific end.

The finer tools were few, and there were some - particularly very finely tuned monitors, and the wiring for the transmitter itself, these would take very fine work.

She found herself looking then, for someone in engineering...
