EVENT #05: FIREWORKS FOR NEW YEAR PREPARATION
With winter’s chill already setting in, Corsair laboratories are hard at work pumping out explosives for the operation to come. After extensive training, the crews of the Corsair airship brigade bring the infiltrators quietly to the Isles Above, all cabin lights doused to move stealthily to the drop point. There, Corsair specialists will disembark and plant explosives, as well as, perhaps, make contact with local workers and evacuate them if time permits. With all crews operating with quiet efficiency, the time is almost nigh to strike at the heart of the Empire itself.
Any mission marked Critical must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete. Missing Critical missions will have major negative impacts on the Execution mission in the following month. Supplemental missions can be completed or not, completing them will go toward achieving optimal results during the Execution mission next month. As with Critical missions, Supplemental missions must have at least one log in progress by the end of the month to be counted as complete.
SUPPLIER MISSIONS
Create Explosives: Characters will need to create explosives and munitions for deployment.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: In order to get explosives that will make enough of a dent in the Imperial forces, Corsairs will need to develop them from the live rounds dropped above the vault. Logs can involve recovering salvage as well as construction of explosives.
Develop Precision Explosives: Characters will need to develop precision explosives to avoid undue damage to the civilians of Bluvink during the attack.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require some research and development from suppliers to find explosives that will detonate at very specific levels in order to not cause the volatile materials within the Bluvink factory to ignite and cause wide-scale damage to the town.
Develop Communications Hijack: Characters will need to develop a tool that can hijack communications within the Empire.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: This will require recovering some Imperial communication technology from salvage or from the Vault and finding a way to dominate Imperial airwaves so they can’t shut down the Corsair propaganda.
INFILTRATOR MISSIONS
Set Explosives in Bluvink: Characters will need to sneak into the Bluvink factory and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The factory has regular guard rotations that can be figured out with proper observation, they will need to be avoided. The facility will also need to be properly cased so that the explosives can be set in places they will not be detected.
Set Explosives in the Vindess Mines: Characters will need to sneak into the Vindess Mines and set explosives, preparing for them to explode during the New Year attack.
Priority: Critical
Challenges: The mines have regular guard rotations and are constantly manned by serfs and servants. All will need to be avoided in order to set the explosives, and those manning the mines must be avoided at all costs.
NEGOTIATOR MISSIONS
Miner Negotiation: Characters will need to convince the miners to evacuate and to join with the Corsairs, as well as not tip off the Imperials.
Priority: Supplemental
Challenges: Many miners are distrustful of the Corsairs due to Imperial Propoganda, and several are Imperial loyalists even under the current circumstances. Several miners may need to be subdued in order to safely evacuate the area without their captors being alerted.
VILLAINS
Villain plots will be planned this month and will happen in the following month. Potential villains may post here to start workshopping potential plots that they may take part in next month.

Re: Villain Plotting
Date: 2024-12-22 01:29 am (UTC)Deedee, Donnie, and Harlock are a pretty good extraction team, and Natalia still has an inactive suppression collar.
Maybe the plan was for Natalia to infiltrate as a (fake) Servant first and get a better idea of the layout and leave via Harlock's ship after rendezvous with Donnie and Deedee.
Terra can probably fuck this up.

Bluvink - Location Scouting for Ideal Distraction Site
Date: 2024-12-22 07:36 am (UTC)At the same time, they don't want to get anyone hurt there either, so finding somewhere that will get enough attention but still not be too big of a threat will be ideal. Bonus points if it burns real bright!
The turtlekin hunkers down in the shadows of a rooftop, scarf pulled snug enough to hide the bottom portion of his face, hood shadowing the rest. He pulls the collar of his jacket closed, thankful for the warmth as up here it's even chillier. His eyes scan the streets below, and he slips his notepad out to add to the rough map he's made.
"I'm thinking..." he says, speaking into his ENC bracer, "-that we'll probably need to aim for somewhere a little closer to the target for this distraction to be effective. If it's well on the opposite side of the city, the people we want to draw away from that point might not feel bothered enough to investigate."

Date: 2024-12-22 08:02 am (UTC)"Given our current knowledge of the factory, what would you say is our best placement for some of these?"

Date: 2024-12-22 08:29 am (UTC)Donnie taps his pencil against his lower lip.
"While it's tempting to go as big as we can with a more centralized placement, we can't guarantee how chaotic things might get if and when things chain outwards."
He flips a few pages to a very rough outline of the factory, x's marking known machinery placement.
"Better to probably take things by sections, target equipment with the heat-packed ones, set the triggers- the small ones, that is- near them or paired with standard explosives where there aren't volatile materials. Also, we don't want to take out any exits, we should keep those as clear as possible. Same goes for windows, although we might not really be able to avoid them blowing out."

Date: 2024-12-23 03:30 am (UTC)Would Donnie like him to throw this one for testing?

Date: 2024-12-23 03:49 am (UTC)"Let me set up."
He moves to clear things from what's left of the other explosive tests, then sets up a small, empty barrel in the middle of a largish ring roughly drawn on the ground. He jogs back over, pausing as he considers something.
"...hm. I guess it'd be more difficult to trigger if we set it inside the barrel. Maybe if we flip it over and place it on top of it? It'll go off if you shoot an arrow at it, right?"

Date: 2024-12-23 06:14 am (UTC)Though who knew if acetylene was in use by the Empire, or if they had learned about its tendency to combust at pressures over a certain amount?
Certainly she didn't see it in the tables here. "Ignore me. I am playing chess without considering my opponent."

Date: 2024-12-25 03:51 am (UTC)"Of course we can't predict how... flammable some of these are. But, let's see." He then taps a few places he thought looked good. "These look like some good points of interest to me."

Date: 2024-12-25 04:05 am (UTC)He circles the places that Harlock points out. "I'll have to cross reference with any updated maps we get and make the suggestions."

Date: 2024-12-26 11:54 pm (UTC)So he places the bomb flower on top of the barrel - probably not as carefully as Donnie would like, but gently enough. And then moves back, grabbing his bow as he does so.
He only notches an arrow though, and holds it loosely. He's not aiming it just yet - instead looking at Donnie, and waiting for an instruction to fire.

Date: 2024-12-27 12:21 am (UTC)He waits until Link's back behind the wall that's there for cover, doing a quick check through his goggles before he pushes them up. Looks good to him. It's a pretty rudimentary sort of test but it should still give them the results they need.
"Whenever you're ready," he says, nodding at Link.

Date: 2024-12-27 11:10 am (UTC)"Maybe we can combine the ideas? Deedee is acrobatic enough to leap where the guards aren't looking. Do you think you can create a noise to draw their attention away from the factory entrance, then rejoin us without being seen?" he asks her.
Atom then looks to Natalia for her opinion. "In the meanwhile we can take advantage of the delay of the guards and sneak the group in with more time to spare."

Date: 2024-12-27 12:08 pm (UTC)“I can knock things over with wind spells for your distraction,” Deedee says, frowning. “And from there… I think I can manage avoiding attention long enough to rejoin you. I’m a little worried about how much Qi - Ether I’ll burn but I’ve been working on my capacity.”
Ziel’s breathing techniques did not come easily to Deedee, but she had been practicing, and they were working.

Date: 2024-12-27 02:12 pm (UTC)Atom kicks off the cheap sandals he was wearing and fires up his feet, flying up to plant his share of the explosives high on the support beams above. At least if the Imperials caught on that something odd was happening at the factory, they would have a hard time finding the charges that were higher up and facing away from the floor. He hurries to return to the ground, not wanting to keep an open flame alight for long even with the wide space away from the danger zones. He slips his sandals back on and looks around to check on others' progress.

Date: 2024-12-27 02:40 pm (UTC)Atom watches closely for obstructions and uses his smaller fingers to feel under the frame for any caught pieces just in case. Thankfully his scans were accurate and nothing was sticking to the frame. Beneath the frame piece is the heart of the Imperial ammunition, containing explosives in the form of several cylinders containing the dangerous chemicals. Between each of the cylinders were minor projectiles, and down the middle was the fuse that had not successfully lit during testing. Atom points out the cylinders as the explosives they want.

The main storage was... she tapped it, on one of her sketches of the layout. "We'd have to set it off directly, I think. They keep the storage away from the shop floor. More for the shop floor than the people, I imagine."

Date: 2024-12-27 04:39 pm (UTC)She pauses, sketching out a few thoughts in the snow, before humming in thought. Definitely not frustration at these new physical laws she's working with. "I don't know enough about the energy consumption to say."
