"What if some of the soldiers are only fighting because they're afraid of disobeying the Emperor? What if the families they leave behind are unable to see that the Emperor was always their real enemy, and in their grief, they blame and hate the Corsairs?"
He grabs at his forehead. "Maybe it's because I'm a robot. But I find it difficult to think of them as the tools of the Emperor instead of as people."
