Blocking is probably what Link should do. But Link's wielding the broom handle like a spear, not a quarterstaff - and instead of blocking, he hops backwards, putting more distance between them.

Once again, Link waits - letting Donnie make the next aggressive approach. But Link is watching him closely - the way he moves, the timing of his strikes. Perhaps if Link can learn him quickly enough, he can find an advantage.
