I suppose it wouldn't hurt - I am not much one for such things myself... but I remember drawing fortunes with a childhood friend and tease him.
[It still amused him that Tochiro was so superstitious... though he supposed he was right about a few things]
As for a deity... I suppose one who watches over children might be appropriate?
