If they weren't under the pressure of sneaking around, Atom would have been amused seeing what looks like a cat shaking its head. As much as his sister talks to cats, they weren't going out of their way to make gestures like a humanoid.
If Ilphyl is staying a cat, they might need a real rat or mouse then. Maybe, in an ironic twist, searching for rats really is what they should do.
Atom waves Ilphyl out of the hallway and into one of the rooms of shelves and displays. His eyes start glowing green, as he scans the walls for heat signatures. When he spots something small and warm blooded he points out the site.
